A timelapse I made of the Partial Lunar Eclipse on September 17, 2024. This eclipse was visible from North America, South America, Europe and Africa.

In a Partial Lunar Eclipse, part of the moon passes into the Earth's dark shadow called the Umbra and completely blacks out. This was also called the Harvest Moon since its the full moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox which occurs on September 22 or 23 each year. This was also a supermoon eclipse where the moon was much closer to Earth at s distance of 217,000 from the Earth. Compared to the moon's average distance to the Earth is around 239,000 miles.

The next Lunar Eclipse will be a Total Lunar Eclipse on March 13 - 14, 2025 visible from North and South America. In a Total Lunar Eclipse the moon passes completely into the Erath's umbral shadow and turns blood red.

All pictures are taken by me through my 8 inch Dobsonian Telescope from Chandler, Arizona between 7:10 PM - 8:40 PM on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
