Erm I don’t think it’s a plot hole or bad writing. In this version (with Amanda’s reappearance) we know that Minos planned this whole thing so Zoey would get on the plane. So it’s very probable that the whole news footage she saw in the police station was faked

I really felt like the ball was dropped in the second one. They gave some really nice Easter eggs that tied into the company CRS from the movie The game with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. And that would have been incredible, but there was no mention of it in the second film.
