The build quality of Mercedes from that era are some of the best cars ever made.

The golden ages of Mercedes. I'd buy one too, but the ones in good shape are expensive. :)

I had an 83 Rabbit diesel non turbo. Man was that a gutless wonder. Still drove 300, 000 miles getting 50 mpg with only routine maintenance.

I had an 85 300d and should have never sold it. I loved that car.

Yeah... those old automatics had some problems, generally it's just vacuum leaks, but if you want millions of miles, get the non turbo, because they will proberly outlast you :)... if you of cause don't mind the terrible 0-60 and a laughable topspeed

And make sure you get a manual then you won't have any problems.

Got a buddy with one. I personally think it’s not that great looking, but he’s hanging on to it until the wheels fall off. That’s dedication. And no mechanical issues.

Good luck finding one of these gems. It's criminal that they don't make them like this anymore.

I drive one everyday to work. 93 300d 2.5 turbo. It drinks used motor oil and provides for my family. I Love it

Scotty I had a 1981 240D naturally aspirated it was essentially the five cylinder with a cylinder chopped off no turbo and a stick shift I still beat my friend who had an automatic one though but yes Scotty is very right they are slow as snails mine had a 0 to 60 time of 30 seconds

I have a 2011 c300 sport with 200k on it. Haven’t had to replace anything besides fluids and break pads. I even drove it doing Uber black for 2 years. My car is bulletproof

No transmission is bullet proof 🤣 I have a mk4 Golf TDI and at 329k I had to finally change the transmission and currently at 340k and runs like a champ. I was very fortunate to find a used one with low miles and it gave it a other life. My goal is to keep that engine running till 1, 000, 000 miles 😁

Everyone of these 300 SD's I see look worse than my car, sound worse than my car, but somehow go down the road better than my car... maybe I need one

Personally I love diesels. They have gotten a bad rap because of those horrible GM 350 diesels back in the late 70s and early 80s but overall a diesel will outlast a gasoline engine. Older diesels are better for DIY than these new ones are.
