The clipping control is important because if you're broadcasting your levels are very random. If I set my voice at the highest level, then I don't have to worry about clipping. I set it and it's done if I've set it by my loudest likely sound. Who cares if the box is made of plastic? I don't plan to throw it around.

I have been using this wonderful interface for a month now. I have to admit the design of EVO4 screams that they don't really like "physical knobs" in general. (e.g. having only one knob, smart gain, software controls, and the elimination of the need to set the knob while switching between the headphones and the monitors, etc.) I personally like switching between monitors and headphones without constantly tampering with the knobs. But again, it's a personal preference.

I already understood it from other reviews, that I either won't like what you show, when the monitors are completely turned off, when the headset is connected . I use focusrite 4i4 3gen and this is whay i probably stick to it for awhile. Nice review.
Productive for you new year!

Great review. Lengthy but didn’t feel long. I feel like it was a conversation with a friend. Great points and I enjoyed how you talked through the good and bad. Helped me scratch the EVO4 off my short list. I also like physical knobs with each knob having a purpose, especially since I’m looking for an interface for a live performance rig.

Fantastic video. Glad I found you while looking into the Evo.

Re: headphone vs monitor outs: Wouldn’t the Evo solution be better for level consistency? All of the volume adjusting means you’re never monitoring at the same levels on either phones or speakers, right?

If you’re composing that’s fine but if you’re producing wouldn’t that fluctuation possibly influence your mix decisions?

I do totally agree that having everything just plugged in is so much more convenient.

21:36 couple of producers mentioned this for focusrite interfaces, I mean it’s odd to have two playing at once, when headphones are being used, using both can cause noise from any other source, that’s weird…more confusion

7:40 but the clicky volume knob is for putting a fixed value and not miss the volume…isn’t it?

Could anyone tell me if this interface could drive the 250Ohm dt990 pro or audient id4 would be a better option?

One of the most important things I've learned is - neither company paid Multiplier anything.

Hi there. As always, great review. Thanks. Have you tired using the EVO 4 with iOS? I'm wondering if I can use it as a USB-to-audio converter for the iPad to take advantage of some of the cool synths.

The upside of the one-knob thing is that it is completely remote controlled from the computer. You don't even have to touch the knobs to set gain or to set phantom power. Which of the other interfaces does that in the price range?

Thanks for the review, I just purchased EVO 4 and found the audio quality is excellent in comparison to other audio interfaces. Plus, 50% of the negative points about the control functionalities works for me. Again as you have said all comes down to personal preferences. Thank you again!

My old MOTU interface became unusable when the pots used to set the gain of the preamps went bad - no replacement parts available now...
I’m quite happy to have digitally controlled preamp gain from my desktop.

Heyo some constructive criticism. I like the actual content of your video and the points you were making, but there is waaaay too much fluff and extraneous business. I made it about 10 mins before I couldn't deal any longer. Editing to keep in all the "my knee is cramping" business gets tiresome. Which is a shame, because I you provide some good insights.

I have a newer focusrite and the knobs are MAGNIFICENT. I unboxed it and my wife and I were playing with them for a good 5 minutes

Have you ever tweaked the gain for a stereo acoustic guitar while you try to sits with the guitar in the right aiming position for the mics and in the room?

If you want to enable monitors and headphones at the same time, buy the EVO 8, which has two separate stereo outputs, with independent gain control.

It's a nice interface, but the "automatic" switch between monitors and headphones turned me off. It's hardwired into it so there is no way around it. You can't use headphones and amp outputs at the same time in any way.

Thank you so much, I agree with you at the end with the headphones situation. I must have headphones and monitors at the same time so thank you!
