Hamvention 2021 is Officially Cancelled

Much like last year, Hamvention 2021 has announced their cancellation of the Hamfest for 2021. Lots of us are disappointed, but I wanted to share my thoughts about this event.

I think we all have a similar sentiment- not surprised, just disappointed.

The annual fire department conference was postponed until August of 2021. It’s usually in April.

Jason, put on a POA event a crossed the world... like a weekend POA trying to activate as many parks as possible without leaving our own areas.

That sucks. There's a few on the books here in Tennessee. As far as I know, the Sevierville Ham Fest is set to take place in March. Dalton is still in the books for next month. There might be a few others, but haven't heard anything yet. The best part is that they're on my weekends off, so I plan on going.

Very strange. Daytona bike week happened. Many other conventions happened. Why is this canceled?

Maybe they should change the name of hamvention to (NFL) National Frequency Listeners.
or (BLM) Broadcast Listening & Monitoring.
Then they would be allowed to gather and no governments would object.

Who didn't see this coming? You could hear their nervousness when they announced there would be a fest in 2021. What I'm afraid they and others are going to find out is: We think it's strange to not go to these events... what happens when we feel strange GOING to these events meaning we get comfortable and used to NOT going? Events are going to cancel themselves out of existence. Just an opinion. Afraid of the hamvention, stay home. Problem solved. Communications is a science but it's not rocket science... if 32, 000 people attend then presell only 15, 000 tickets and that's it. 50% capacity and spread everyone out. When are we going to figure out staying alive isn't living?

Is there any good study videos for getting a ham radio license? I’m not great at studying with books. I’ve always wanted to get my license and I think this day and age it would be smart to go ahead and get my license. Thanks.

I’m not surprised they cancelled and I don’t blame them. And like you said, they wouldn’t be forcing people to go. BUT if they did hold the show and someone or a group of people that attended caught & died from C19, I’m sure someone would love to start a lawsuit against the Hamvention group for holding the show “during a pandemic” and causing the person or people to catch & die from C19.

Sucks. Hopefully things will be different next year?

With things as bad as they are out here on the coast right now I wouldn’t want to travel anywhere and unknowingly bring it with me. Hopefully 2022. (or like you said whatever random hamvention as soon as it is safe 😆)

All the Gold Prospection shows will most likely be canceled again this year, all is good, ill take my new FT-60 to the claim.

In the case of a commercial show such as this it really isn't possible to go forward the organizer has to commit to the lease of the site, guarantees for vendor volume, there are often requirements for union freight handling, not to mention some sponsored events.
