The scene with Iceman really choked me up. There was a fiction/reality overlap that was incredibly touching.

Summer of 1986, I was the line/flight deck chief with VF31 and we had just headed east on a Med cruise. They had "Danger Zone" blaring over the flight deck almost every launch and we felt like king of the world. Great time for Naval Aviation!

“No spoilers” - proceeds to give a play by play of every scene.

Jokes. Enjoyed the video.

I teared up as soon as the anthem started in the beginning. I never had any misconceptions about being a pilot; but I knew I wanted to join the Navy when I saw the original in 87 when I was fourteen(I watched it on VHS OK)... And to this day I have ABSOLUTELY NO regrets about serving my country for thirteen years. Thanks Tom, Val, Tony, Meg, Tom... and most importantly, Jerry Bruckheimer, for bringing it altogether.

Tickets purchased for the 25th, IMAX of course. Took my then girlfriend on a first date to the original in 86, still married to her to this day, danced to Take My Breath Away at our wedding and have both been waiting patiently for this for 36 long years. I just wish I had aged as well as Tom 😂 Thanks for all the vlogs Mooch, I’m getting “GOOSEbumps” waiting 😉

I just saw it in IMAX. I admit, I was skeptical, but this movie was amazing. So many nods to the first film, but the story didn't feel overwhelmed by it. And yes I, too was tearing up at the end. I can't wait for your technical debrief with the Hornet pilots.

Man this film was bloody awesome. I grew up in the U.K and was obsessed with aircraft and the F14 Tomcat was and STILL is my number 1 since i first saw it in a book in the early 80's. Top Gun was the push that got me to join the RAF Air Cadets. My life took a different path, but i'm convinced this film will be that inspiration for a new gen of pilots to follow their dreams as the original Top Gun did. Great film ❤

My best memories of Top Gun 1 was when I served on the aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CV-64) and our ship pulled into Vancouver, BC after it came out. Man….the gals treated us well.

Thanks, Mooch! I worked for the same company, but in a different division. I was an EM on a nuke Fast Boat from '83-'88. I appreciate what you guys did.
You did yours above the water. I did mine below it...

As Viper said, "Remember, when it's over out there, we're all on the same team."

I saw it tonight, and had a lump in my throat. I’ve decided it isn’t just nostalgia, it’s admiration for Cruise & co for dedication to craft and insisting on doing this old school when everything is CGI these days. It’s reminiscent of Howard Hugh’s devotion to ‘Hell’s Angels”, and in a way the two films are bookends: it’s hard to imagine anyone doing another movie like this.

Saw it last night with my wife and daughter - who I've called "Goose" for years. After seeing the original in the theater in 1986, I'll agree with Ward about the IMAX immersive experience. And I might have had a few misty-eyed moments during the film as well. Thanks Ward!

The most beautiful aviation movie ever shot, Wards backs it up...That got me buying a ticket.

Top Gun Maverick was beyond my expectations. Not sure if I got teary-eyed, laughed, or cheered more. Fun fact I’m not sure anyone has yet pointed out: Phoenix was from VFA-41, the Black Aces, which was involved in the Gulf of Sidra Incident (on which the original movie was based).

I just watched the movie and hell yeah that was AWESOME!! I'm ex-Air Force, munitions on F-4's, F-15's and the mighty B-52G!! Even though this is a Navy story line I LOVED it because the culture and camaraderie of a combat fighter squadron is very much REAL in both services!! This was a total blast and I'm glad I ventured out to a movie theater during these um "trying times" to see this!! WAY WORTH IT!!! If you loved the first movie you will love this one too!!

Great review, Mooch! My uncle Vince, who lives in Coronado and is a veteran, was invited to the screening out at North Island several weeks ago. Tom Cruise was in attendance, with great introductions and accolades, along with a couple of admirals. Vince's take on the movie was much like yours, he was pleasantly stoked at just how well the film was made and its storyline. Cheers!

An absolute joy ride. I'll be watching this one again and again.

Incredible movie. I fully recognize the technical discrepancies and less than authentic representation of Naval reality. But wow! I was blown away. Amazed by its stunning aerial action, but equally blown away its very moving emotional moments. I'll be watching this more than once on the big screen, for sure.

Rear Admiral: Thirty-plus years of service. Combat medals. Citations. Only man to shoot down three enemy planes in the last 40 years. Yet you can't get a promotion, you won't retire, and despite your best efforts, you refuse to die. You should be at least a two-star Admiral by now, yet here you are. Captain. Why is that?

Maverick: Well... Do you remember "Tailhook '91"?

Rear Admiral: No

Maverick: I do.
