PROS
1. Stopped checking Social media/youtube
2. Spent more time in silent thought
3. More time efficient workouts
4. More calling vs texting, good conversations

CONS
1. Texting on T9, it’s the worst
2. Using for barcodes to pickup amazon
3. No mobile banking
4. No GPS
5. No Podcasts/Audiobooks/Music
6. You become highly sensitive to others use of smartphones, they might think you’re annoying

The fact that these type of videos are gaining popularity highlights the dissatisfaction many people are having with their smartphone use. Many of us want the luxuries of a smartphone mobile banking, maps, & podcast without the more addictive & time consuming apps like instagram, reddit, or youtube. Deleting these apps helps, but when we are feeling vulnerable it’s easy to download them again or to login on the web browser. Seems like there is a demand for a smartphone that is capable, but not addictive. Practical, yet boring.

I just bought an Altacel Go Flip 3, I haven’t activated it yet but it was $55 on ebay and it’s $15 a month on t-mobile connect with 2gb. This is an affordable way for anyone to try this 30 day challenge. Also the Go flip 3 has Voice to Text which is a lifesaver over t9 & google maps.

I’ve had a flip phone for over a year now. Best decision I’ve ever made. I have a pretty bad smartphone/internet addiction and this has helped immensely.

I’m considering it really bad right now, I feel like my takes up way to much of my time and I’m addict to it

Nice video! I think stepping away from technology for a while is a great experiment and is great for your mind. I have lived without a cell phone for 6 years now (minus about 9 months when I had to have one for work) and it is one of the top three best decisions I ever made for my mental health. For me, the pros outweighed the cons. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Just picked up this phone. Excited and also nervous of how it will go. I am sure it will be beneficial

Wow Tyler I really am impressed that you were able to do this! It sounds like you've learned a lot from it, definitely missed a few things (as would be expected) but the self awareness it inspired is amazing!

I’d love to try the phone out. I had an older version of that phone, but it’s not compatible with AT&T. I’m ditching the smart phone all together

I've just ordered a KAI OS phone. It's essentially a dumbphone but can have SOME of the apps a smartphone has. It has physical keys but doesn't have the addictive glow of a smartphone. I see it as a compromise. I basically want a dumbphone that can still do WhatsApp. The KAI OS devices can do this, although it won't support video calling, but that's no issue as I always feel awkward doing that anyway! I'm looking forward to breaking that phone addiction!

Actually this year I broke my phone due to an accident and I didn't have the budget to get a new phone... so I decided to go without a phone for about a month and it was dragged to 2 months.... you literally feel so close to the world and look over a different perspective of the world... btw I had my SIM card into my hostel roomies phone so that I connect with everyone in night ... and facetime on my iPAD

Can you tell me if you are able to put a iPhone 11 SIM card in one of them

I wonder which camera you use on the everyday basis as opposed to your phone's? I am using a flip phone at the moment and really like the simplicity of it, as well as how it imposes the mono-tasking lifestyle :)

I really want to give up my smart phone, but I LOVE audiobooks, podcasts, and it’s how I digitally borrow books from the library. Also GPS....(sighs) decisions

I'm still using a Motorola StarTAC. Turns more heads than a smartphone and less distracting. But I can't get rid of my smartphone, I rely on it too much. GPS, emails etc. But I keep it in my bag and use the flip phone, only taking out my iPhone when I actually need it. I hated being glued to it.

Thank you to put yourself in such a difficult experience for goodness. I guess the new brand of Flip phone does not have speaker to speak hand free. The old versions had loud speaker. I don't understand why they removed such good quality since Flip phone works well for seniors.

You could try budgeting for a month or spending a certain amount for a month or week to show everyone how they can save money in their lives
