A-Z of Attitude

Attitude isn’t something you can buy. If you’ve got it, you own it. It’s an effortless sense of self defined by where you've been, who you know, and what you've experienced. It’s as much about the walk or the hairstyle as it is about the feeling.

Whether it’s a drag queen turning a bodega into her throne or dancers turning a subway ride into Showtime, New Yorkers have attitude. That’s why i-D and göt2b came together to present the A-Z of Attitude, the newest film in i-D’s A-Z series showing off the many attitudes and hair looks found on the streets of New York.

And while there may only be 26 letters in our encyclopedia of attitude, there is no limit to expressing a unique identity. In the words of Alexis (O for O.G.), “Why blend in when you can stand out as an individual?"

In this whole idea of trying to "stand out" and be different, let's not forget about individuality in the the intellectual sense rather than the physical sense, or just trying too hard to act differently for the sake of attention. It's too bad that a sense of individuality is mainly represented in this strange, almost fantastical portrayal. Some of the most amazing people seem normal on the outside but their minds are the most magical places. But when you look and act "normally", you can get written off as basic and unimaginative. What I'm trying to say is, you don't shouldn't have to look and act like a pretentious hipster in order to have this unique kind of attitude.
