Failure to discipline BC doctor in woman’s death a 'slap in the face,' mother says

A British Columbia mother says she won't give up her fight for accountability, despite a lack of discipline against a doctor who made an error during his care for her critically-ill daughter, who later died.

"If a doctor is sending a patient home and found responsible by the (regulator) and she ultimately dies because of it, why is that not enough to lose his licence?" Ann Forry told Global News.

"It's an absolute slap in the face."

Ann Forry's 29-year-old daughter Natasha died of toxic shock in November, 2020. Despite progressively worsening symptoms, she was sent home from the emergency room at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver three times, with instructions to come back if things got worse.

After her death, Forry's mother Ann filed a complaint with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C.

It's not just in BC. Hospitals all across Canada have very bad doctors that should not be practicing medicine. Graduating from med school does not make you a good doctor, it just means you have the intellectual capability of passing your practical and theory. I'm in Ontario and I have had plenty of nightmare
incidences with horrible doctors with no bedside manner, lack of empathy, lack of instinct, lack of keen observation, and lack of practical experience. Doctors today practice a "one size fits all" kind of medicine. My condolences to the mother on the unnecessary, tragic loss of her daughter. Our healthcare might be "free", but you get what you pay for.

Doctors have no accountability here. It took me SIX years to get diagnosed with a common type of arthritis. I’m 33 and I was only diagnosed late last year. I have seen literally DOZENS of doctors and everyone just passed me off from dr to dr. It turns out that my arthritis is really damn obvious. I never knew about arthritis before, so I couldn’t of even offered it as an option to look into.

The College of Physicians & Surgeons of BC is not there for patients who filed complaints against wrongful doing of physicians of BC either. Why? The reason is that the College is able to exist is via the membership fees paid by the doctors in BC. Obviously, the College is not going to bite the hands that feeds it. I had a terrible experience with an urologist here in North Vancouver, who lied and falsified my medical records. He coerced me into having a life-changing surgery which I didn't need. I subsequently launched a complaint with the College but my complaint was simply dismissed.

We got a Nurse Practitioner creating havoc in our small town, every person over 60 is complaining about the miss diagnosis. Now we bypass the town Clinic and go straight to Emergency at the hospital, at least they have real doctors.

Why do you think the consent form exists? Doctors have no consequences in Canada for anything they tell you

Try going to google for a diagnosis, I had similar problems but fortunately I lived through a bout of sepsis. When I got home I googled my symptoms and found the diagnosis within 5 minutes. There are many excellent drs out there but some are not.
