I am also an American. Living in China 13 years now. Loving every minute if it. I fully agree with the "unforgettable". I prefer WeChat pay. Can't live without my WeChat. LOL I have sst here trying to think of a BCD I have had and I just can't think of any. I believe I could write a full length novel about my experiences here and readers wouldn't believe all the positive experiences I have had. No one would believe the Chinese people could be this good. I have an excellent translator on my OPPO phone so I have no problems with the bank or any other business. To me China is just a great and safe place to live.

Nice sharing. China is not a perfect country for everyone, but a nice choice for open mind and friendly foreigners.

I went to China 4 times, 1990s, 2002, 2006 and 2018 both for business and leisure. 1990s and 2002 were disappointing, I felt it was so backwards, then 2006 was a surprise and then 2018 was an eye opener - totally different from the old China, so advanced more so than America in the cities and when I wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of city life, there are so many heritage/cultural sites with thousands of years of history. Just fantastic how China has changed to the better, probably the best country developments ever in the history of mankind and one more thing, China is much much safer than many countries I've been.

I really like the word "unforgettable" you use to describe your life in China. This means China has really has entered into your heart and stay inside for the rest if your life. It is like the feeling you have when you have met the true love of your life.

I am an American too. I have not live in China but I have visited the country several times (business trips). My one word to describe China would be "dynamic" because every trip to China, I see new development. The changes to this society is happening so quickly that a mere six months apart would make me feel alien to a place I have visited before.
I agree with John that the one thing I wish we can have in America is Alipay (in my case Wechat). I don't have to carry cash or credit cards in China. The other thing I like about China is the security. I have no fear walking the streets even in the wee hours unlike here in Los Angeles.

I have been in China four years and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else now. Last year I was visiting family back in N. Ireland when the flights got cancelled because of the virus outbreak and my airline told me you can go back to Beijing in the next three days or wait until April. Big decision. I said get me on the next flight. It took less than a minute to decide :D

Thank you for your honesty & sharing your beautiful China experiences with the world. I visited beautiful China in 2017 & 2020 contributing to my love for the country, people & culture. My 1 word to describe beautiful China is wonderful. Looking forward to my next visit in 2022. Wishing you joy, health & continuous blessings.

It seems I have a lot of the same experiences. I have been here six years now and have had a few annoyances, but I really enjoy my life here. One of my worst experiences was crossing the road while the green man was on and an electric bike hit me. Two people on the bike and me on the floor. The guy driving shouted at me and I was pointing at the green man. (I hadn’t learned much Chinese at all so couldn’t explain). Luckily the lady passenger told him to go on and stop arguing.😀
You are correct about the bank! 😂

my first 6 months in China were so depressive, I remember I didn't know anybody, couldn't buy anything.. and things like this))) I remember every time I went to buy something I was hoping that a seller wont ask me anything - I was thinking "just give me my food, take my money, that's all)))" but they always ask some questions ... but now its ok)

i think one thing that really sticks out is just how fast china is changing compared to developed countries, just hearing you bad experiences you can really feel how didi and bike sharing totally changed how people move around in just a couple of years.
