Nan Rendong, the general director of the project, came from a poor background, his ideal was originally a painter, but because of the needs of the motherland, he entered the study of radio astronomy.
FAST, which he presided over, was inaugurated on September 25, 2016. passed away on September 15, 2017 from lung cancer.
On November 17, 2017, the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) posthumously awarded Nan Rendong the honorary title of "Model of the Times".
On September 25, 2018, with the approval of the International Astronomical Union's Committee on the Naming of Small Celestial Bodies, the asteroid discovered by the National Astronomical Observatory (NAO) on September 25, 1998, with the international permanent number "79694", was formally named the star Nan rendong in recognition of his contributions to astronomy.

I can't speak to "megaprojects" but I can tell you in Shanghai, the rate of development and improvement and expansion of just normal day to day quality of life and infrastructure stuff is nothing short of mind-boggling.

There is a downside though, replacing everything with shiny glass and steel does feel it's loosing a lot of 'character' tho :(

I wish I could visit China, all I know is what I see in the western media and as I've gotten older think that information could be biased. I'll probably never know.

There's a little mistakes in Tai hu tunnels.
Actually its not perpendicular rather it would be horizontal. It connects two districts of Wuxi, (Binhu and Yixing)
Anyway it's not a big deal. keep focus next time and continue your good work

Involved in BOTH Singapore and Malaysia ... MEGA projects . My so call MEGA projects are a PALE comparison to those in CHINA. Some of CHINA mega project left me AMAZE and CONFUSE of how they manage to DESIGN, CONSTRUCT and MAINTAIN such MEGA Projects !!!
