Inductance isn't the AC form of resistance. Are you thinking of impedance?

I was hoping you would open it up
My guess is that it's a resistive load (that's why there are vents) and a fancy voltmeter
If you haave a variac you could test at what voltages each indication is.

I don't see whats the advantages of this over a typical outlet tester like the Klein Tools RT250 that cost under $16. I think you said it cost about $100, that is in no way worth the money in my opinion, if all it did was to tell me if my wiring for the outlet is connected correctly.

They could have used a C14 connector for multi region or even C6 as it does not test the resistance if i understand correctly
Without the ground i believe the device is a meh for the price
Also you should add the manual in video, i managed to find a table that shows impedance for each number

There are extension cords that only have 16ga wire in them. This thing would likely detected that.
