You have to use the same partition, if you want to compare boot times. The difference between the begin and the end of the drive can be 40% in throughput. You also should use the same browser, since that Internet Explorer is not usefull anymore for many many sites. It is really obsolete, very simple and it seems fast for the things it still supports.

Good job overall. It amazes me that all the various light weight comparisons out there no one ever includes puppy linux or any of its varients.

oh man, you're so young and naive when it comes to this stuff, very cute video. Dont give up on linux buddy! also arch is fast, slack is faster, gentoo is fastest.

Now you can also try Lubuntu 18.10 on that machine and tell us your thoughts. It has a new UI, but not sure how sluggish that would make ☺️

I don't like to wait for 60s to boot up. I recommend using modern hardware ( like SSD, 6th gen Intel ) as your desktop computer and save your time. They add up in the long run. For old computer, I recommend using it as a home server. You can have much fun with a home server. A command line server OS boots up very quickly. You can also let it run 24 hours a day. So boot time is eliminated.

Awesome video! I have a 400mhz iMac G3 with the stock 64mb of RAM which is way too low for any of these distros so what I did was install Fluxbox and X.Org on Debian and it runs great.

Now which lightweight distro has the best legacy driver support starting from the install? (XP obviously has it covered, as that's what hardware was made for at the time.) And no, being told to get new hardware isn't the correct answer. So what works "as-is"? Sometimes speed isn't everything, so I think that would be an interesting test.

Still seems to be a common enough problem with wifi and some graphics for what is otherwise a smooth transition to a newer OS.

I like Lubuntu ... 33 sec bootup, 3 second shutdown, and blazingly fast & stable inbetween. I wish I'd given MS Windows the finger long ago.

can you do side by side comparison of Linux Mint 19 MATE vs XFCE? on VM with Pentium 4 with 2gb RAM specs.
do RAM and CPU usage comparison... because i have experienced that MATE 64bit is lighter than XFCE 64bit.
awaiting your response... ...
