Well, I do have lots of videos about fig trees, and this one would be unexpected.
At the beginning of summer I encountered a situation that I didn't know how to deal with. And it took me 2 months to establish what caused the problem and reassess my careless actions.
Since there aren't may people talking about it, I decided to reveal the cause of my scarring that many of you noticed on some photos of mine.

I grew up around fig trees. I never knew that the sap of a fig tree can cause burns on some people. Good information to know.

WOW, this explains why I had places on my hands after cutting a figtree ack in June. Thank you for the information. I will try to find other things to heal this.

Wow, that's astonishing! I grow figs too, and saw cautions about not getting sap on the skin and that it will burn. I have not been cautious because I've gotten it on my skin from time to time and it has no effect at all. Thanks for the heads-up though, and good luck.

The human body is pretty amazing with it's ability to recover from so many ailments. In addition, you have youth on your side. It's quite possible, within a reasonable amount of time, that you may struggle to find where this incident occurred on your body. I guess that's simply known as 'positive thinking'.
Best to you & your recovery. 😊👍

I have heard of this reaction from touching parsnip leaves but did not know about the fig. An ointment made from marigold petals is good for all skin problems. Hope it heals fully. Xx

I never knew figs could do this but they're quite a few plants that can cause this that we grow and find in our gardens. Hope you get better soon. Be careful of your eyes when cutting also. Thanks for the video. All the best 🇬🇧.

Did not know about photo toxic reactions on the skin from fig trees. The saps from Heracleum and Pastinaca sativa ssp. sylvestris are phototoxic. Both plants are found in Northern Europe. Citrus oils from different species in the citrus family are known to be phototoxic too.

❤Wow that is scary, thank you for sharing this valuable information. I'm very glad that your blisters are healing and I hope they don't leave scars - good that you didn't get it on your face or in your eyes, that would have been awful. I hadn't heard of photosensitivity and I see now that it can be produced through ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact.
I have pruned figs many times and have noticed the excessive white juice coming out but thankfully I didn't experience
reactions - I will be very careful from now on.
On a side note I just read that the structures of hemoglobin and chlorophyll are similar. The main distinction is that hemoglobin is based on iron (Fe), whereas chlorophyll is based on magnesium (Mg). Take care, much love, Rory.

I have one near my house and I picked the fruits in the summer without a shirt. I only felt an itch on my skin. But soon as I took a shower, it stopped after a while. Here in Serbia, they say that fig milk is good for removing warts.I didn't know it caused such sores.
Greetings from Serbia🇷🇸❤🇧🇾

I had no idea, thanks. Though I once trimmed another similar sappy tree and forgot to wash my hands, then I touched my eyes. I ended up at the hospital in excruciating pain and unable to see. They were able to treat it thankfully. I just planted a fig tree so I will now be aware to warn others also.

Hi dear, you shouldn't do too much (or unneccessary work) in your garden - figs don't really need being cut in the summertime, I think. 😉 I also have some fig trees in my garden (in the Inn valley/Alps), but never had the idea of removing leaves or shoots during the vegetation period. This year my harvest from just one tree/bush (ca. 3 m in height) was more than 10 kg of delicious fruits so far, with many fruits still turning ripe (until the first frost) - all without any cutback.
Phytophotodermatitis seems to take place only if you expose your skin to the sun after contact with the substances - there shouldn't be too much pain or damage if you immediately and thoroughly remove the drops from your skin before enjoying the sunlight. But sure it's better to protect your skin (with gloves and long clothes) when working with the relevant plants.
Stay safe and take care... 😘
