I still like the drum solo from 1976's All The World's A Stage album most. This was the first Neil Peart drum solo I had ever heard, and it still sounds great today. It was played at the end of a Working Man/Finding My Way song combo. No electronic drums or xylophone fills included. Just the young "Professor" pounding out an explosive 4 minutes and 12 seconds of percussive greatness.

It's really nice seeing his different solos over the years. His early ones had a lot of energy and were a bit more "aggressive". His later ones were more nuanced and a little more compositional. Always a crowd-pleaser though!

This is by far my favorite solo by Neil that is currently on YouTube. Everyone reacts to the Frankfurt solo...but this is Neil at the peak of his playing. This solo was abridged on the CD for time constraints of the CD media at the time, and THIS solo was shortened even more to fit on a VHS tape. There is a lot of great stuff they cut out to make it fit.

That was from Hold Your Fire Tour, 1987, before the modern metal-thrash, death ect- I believe you're thinking of. Metallica just released Master of Puppets in '86. It was a very different kind of music from the classic rock, blues-rock & prog we grew up on.
This is very similar to Neil's '84 &'85 solos with a bit more melodic parts each year as I recall

PJ, if you want to hear a "more aggressive" version of Neil Peart's drum solo, look to the source -- listen to his first recorded solo from Rush's first live album, "All the World's a Stage"! It is MONSTER! A young and hungry 20-something Neil Peart and he is on fire! It's attached to the Working Man/Finding My Way mini-medley. Check it out! Crushes!

You should see the lighting guy trigger all the lights manually... 🍁

I think this solo may be pre Neil's training with the jazz drummer Freddy Gruber which brought more feel and swing to Neil's playing in the early 2, 000's

Best version of YYZ, unfortunately they don't show the entire solo. Neil was in really great shape here.

Hi from Brasil! Excellent! And even the execution of "YYZ" is more "accelerated" than the original version... the only time I've seen it! Music already difficult to play at "norm" speed... and as for the solo... monstrous as ever!

Thank you for not doing FRANKFURT. Ignorant Rush fans ALWAYS recommend it.

Do you call your ears your "URs"???

The why do you keep calling Neil Peart "Purt"?

He was a drummer, not a kitten.
