As always, solid advice!
I do leave flowers go to seed for the birds, they particularly enjoy the bachelor buttons, cosmos and cone flowers. Another thing I do is after the seeds have been taken I break the hollow stems and use as mulch, it gives pollinators a place to overwinter.
Good to show you do not to have a fancy set up to compost, although for a hot compost size does matter.
Even though I have the dreaded jumping worms, I still mulch with shredded leaves in the fall. I wait until the soil temps fall into the 30'sF, the JW's are now dying out, then I remove the mulch in the spring before the soil temp reaches 50F, that way I am not feeding emerging JW's from their cocoons.
Another fall garden prep I do is plant cover crops, this year I did a mix of buckwheat, daikon radish, hairy vetch and clover. This will keep roots in the bed all winter, and provide a nice mulch, or compost material in the spring.
Enjoy your videos! Stay Well!!!!

This was so fun to watch! I loved that you have your yellow shirt as we talk about fall, and I loved the colors that blended one scene into the next. Everything was so practical, as usual! It’s always such fun because then as I’m driving and watching your videos, I start dreaming about the garden again. :-)

Yes! Even tho my backyard faces south, the beds closest to the fence get no winter sun do to it's angle. I mulched it heavily last fall! Leaves = free! MAC sighting!

Been traveling. Just saw this. You have i spired me to try composting. With all the ratios everyone talks about, it was just too intimidating. You make me think I CAN do it!

I have been following your advice on composting and had the best compost yet due to increasing the carbon content. I now tear up all my cardboard and unwanted mail and don't put any out for recycling. It all goes in my garden and I can now get a head start for the spring. 👍🌷

Hi. I can't afford a composite sack, but can I use a 15 gallon grow bag by any chance ? I'm an elderly woman and can't build a bin. Any suggestions?

I just looked at my 15 gallon fabric pot. Ive ignored it for 2 yrs cuz i had chick poop. I added some old potting soil last fall. Just checked it cuz i needed some compost & didnt want to go to the store. It was done.

Can you compost Redwood needles?
While I’m thinking about it, what about outdated canned vegetables?

So mice/rodents don't eat into the sides of the compost bags? That's mu concern, as well as the raccoons in my area.
