I used to run a home made tape to digital video conversion service. I handled hundreds of home movies in the past. Although it was just one slight instance. I remember vividly one of the many tapes was a family going to New York City in 1998. It was late at night and although a mile two away. The family member with the camcorder in the dark of the late night looked down one of the avenue streets in Manhattan and you could see the two towers, the person with the camcorder zoomed into the twin towers in the dead night, yet emanating a bright set of lights from the office spaces amongst the contrast of the darkness that surrounded it. And all the person said was, "look its the twin towers" while pointing a finger at it. Although such an insignificant bit of home movie touristy stuff at the time it was very impactful to me seeing this all the way in 2020. Although I did not keep any of those videos because of privacy stuff (obviously) I did allow myself at the time to keep a still from the video. Have it on some drive somewhere. Will see if I can find it some time.

Last Christmas, I and my cousins were drunkenly explaining to our younger cousins that life really changed that September day.

Our family used to travel to NYC every other 3 or so years and I’m the cousin that’s the cut off because we were suppose to visit during Thanksgiving that year. It was going to be my first time visiting.

I had turned 8 the week before and watching the North tower fall live on television at my granny’s house made me hit some mental checkpoints way earlier than I’d like.

Rest easy to all the victims and their friends and families. The world changed that day, America changed.

I was born 11 years after the attacks, so I unfortunately never got to see the towers. I wish I had, they look as cool! At least we still have the new World Trade Center.

The condition of the Twin Towers' interiors was deteriorating over time. If they still stood today, they would likely face financial losses or become targets for additional terrorist attacks, as they had already been targeted before. Weathering would have also caused the buildings to lose panels and require constant maintenance. Despite their tragic loss, the events of that day led to significant improvements in security. However, we must never forget the lives lost and the sacrifices made on that fateful day.
