New CJI Of India: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has recommended Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the second-most senior judge of the Supreme Court, as his successor. Enrolled as an advocate in 1983, Justice Khanna has had a distinguished legal career, initially practicing in Delhi’s district courts before moving to the High Court. Justice Sanjiv Khanna served in various capacities, including as Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department and Standing Counsel for the Delhi government. Elevated to the Supreme Court in 2019, Justice Sanjiv Khanna has contributed to landmark rulings, including his dissenting opinion on the Central Vista project and his involvement in key constitutional matters such as Article 370 and electoral bonds.
