The biggest tree I have ever cut down

This is the biggest tree I’ve ever cut. 137 years old. Redwood logging with Antone and Gordy last month. The full YouTube video of this tree will be up tomorrow. Apparently Antone has A 10 footer down there that needs harvesting as well, should I go back down and film that one too?
They are really selective with this sort of logging in California, there’s a ton of work that goes I to forest preservation down there. This is a thinning project where only a few of the big ones get marked for harvesting but most of the forest is preserved. No old growth redwood trees are felled anymore, this one is a baby compared to some of the ancient ones. They grow really big really quickly. A different species might take 500 years to get even remotely this large but these trees grow extremely quickly

I love the smell of fresh cut redwood. It almost has a sweet smell. Incense cedar smells good too.

Fact you said you need more time cutting big wood and now that is what you are doing is called getting shit done. Inspiring . makes me want to save my money up even more to go hike the CDT. No excuses. Can’t talk about doing things . Just gotta get out there and get it done. You the man.

Legendary wood right there. Got to go back 100 years or more to find larch and doug fir consistently that big up here in the Swan Valley in MT. Those were all done by two man felling crews on spring boards. Still see those big notched stumps in places

Back in the 70s n 80s my dad and I cut shake blocks for quite a while. You're only cutting old growth, so we cut a lot of big cedars. Some as big as 14 or 15 feet in diameter. We only ever used 056 mags with 36 inch bar. It helps that most big cedars are hollow. We used to knock out the undercut and climb inside and cut from the inside. Never took any pictures. We thought we'd be doing it forever. Life has a way of moving on, though. Good luck.

Great job Jake! A video about cutting a 10 foot tree would be awesome! But please don't use the automated voice again. Makes it seem like a cheesy TikTok.

Was that a stub? None the less way cool. Hope you post the entire video. What's with the generated voice?

Why are redwoods still being fallen? I thought the Lumber was kind of a pain. I think it's rock resistant, but very weak and brittle? Maybe this one was dead? Good cutting regardless

Had to watch a few times, that’s great.

Halved your work by taking down that tree first and letting it smash down the rest of the ones for removal haha 😛

And yeah that pose, that’s classic goodness right there.
