Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862 (5 de Mayo) is considered significant because it delayed French empire intervention in Mexico, which indirectly helped the Union cause during the American Civil War by preventing France from providing substantial support to the Confederacy, French intervention in Mexico, thereby preventing French from supplying weapons, manpower to the Confederacy
