We have sensitive skin in our home and we love this! It is easy to make and lasts forever. This is awesome because it is chemical free and it makes 192 loads.

Laundry soap
16 cups baking soda or 2 - 4 lb boxes
24 cups washing soda or 3 large boxes
8 cups castile soap. We used 6 bars of Kirk's castile soap or Dr. Bonners
Mix everything together in a large bucket.
Use 1/4 to 1/2 cup in your load of laundry. I use 1/2 cup for super dirty loads.
This lasts us 6-9 months when we were a family of 5. Now that some have moved out I figure it will last us a year.

Baking Soda we purchase from Walmart in the laundry section

If you are worried about how this will affect your washer please ask your appliance repairman. We haven’t had an issue but each machine is different and some don’t work with homemade soap.

Don’t forget to see what we are up to on our other social media platforms.

Thanks for watching,

A tip I have discovered is that in the summer time Walmart carries a big 10 or 15lb bag of baking soda in the pool supply aisle for cheaper per pound than the box in the laundry aisle.

Speed queen!! I got so tired of buying new washers that dont last..(8 kids on a farm!) Did some research and hubs found me an older speed queen..LOVE IT. No special buttons..so basic.

My friend moved into my house with me for a while. I didn't have room for her tumble washer in the house, so we put it in the patio. Fine. One day I told her that her tumble washer wasn't getting her clothes clean with 2" of water, even with an extra rinse, and she did not believe me. She said she paid over $800 for hers while mine was a measly shy $250 I proposed an experiment. I told her to wash her work clothes (not even really dirty clothes) in her tumble washer with an extra rinse then give them to me to run through a load in mine. She did. When my machine filled up the first time and agitated for about 5 minutes, with her watching I opened up the lid and let her see the water. It was like looking through fog. I told her she was wearing that "fog" crap against her skin daily, sleeping on it, AND she had psoriasis sores that BLED constantly. People, DO NOT GET TUMBLE WASHERS. Get a regular old agitating washer that you can fill to the top with water. Your clothes will be cleaner and your skin will be healthier.

I’ve been making my own laundry detergent for the past couple of years now & it’s not only cheaper, but it gets my clothes clean without all the harsh chemicals and stuff!

Instead of fabric softener, pour white vinegar is the softener compartment. It removes ugly odors too. Give it a try…. Thanks for the recipe!

I've done 198 loads of laundry since January 2024. My husband has a lawn service, and there's laundry almost every day. I know how many loads, because I pay myself $1 a load. I have saved a lot of money this year, just by really measuring my detergent.
I give to a family in need with most of the savings. I don't miss the money and it's fun.
My daughter uses this formula. She loves it.

You are so RIGHT on with chemicals in our food, laundry aids, personal products……
I thank you for showing us “how to” create cleaning products for our laundry days! I have given up fabric softner quite a while ago, but/c of its ingredients. Looking forward to your videos.
BTW-your flauta recipe is a hit in my home.
Thank you. 😊

I hate all of the new “smart” appliances in our new home! Nothing works right! Thank you for the recipe!

I made the dry washing powder in the past with Fels-Naptha soap and had greasy spots on my clothes because I only use cold water. Be sure to use a liquid formula of homemade detergent if you use only cold water.

Washing soda is baked/heated baking soda. That is it. The chemistry of it changes after being heated, changing it into sodium "whatever". ;D The combo of the two forms of sodium "whatevers" for laundry is likely why it cleans and deodorizes so well. Fels-naptha soap gives my son-in-law a rash and my daughter and I sometimes react to it. Olive oil is so expensive now, buying premade castile soap is a better and cheaper idea than me whipping up a batch. I had made a coconut salt soap a while back that may be good too. It is very cleansing without causing skin problems. Thank you! I had not made any for a while and was using "safe and clean" (maybe?) laundry soap because I wanted something without the fels-naptha and borax. Borax is great, but it needs very hot water to melt properly and can be harsh on elastic, like on our underthings.

Addition- We ditched the front-loader washer, digital cra.., er, crummy washer and a pseessed dryer that beeped and did all sorts of weird crud in the middle of the nigh for a Speed Queen set. The model without any digital anything, top-loading washer, KNOBS, even an extra rinse option. Center agitator, a bleach dispenser and a rinse for fabric softener (I use vinegar) in the agitator. The dryer does not have a buzzer, which I am fine with. They were even cheaper than the fancy digital set. Oh, they can be worked on and made of steel, not plastic and beer cans. One day I am going to sweetly smile and ask my grandson to weld together stands for them to set upon so I can clean under them. The lifts are expensive and you still cannot clean under them. I miss the days the fridges where also just enough off the floor to get a ruler with a towel under them to get dust, dog food, dropped whatever... from under them.

Trivia- Some Chinese cooks who make their own noodles bake a little baking soda before adding it to the flour because it makes a better flavored Chinese noodle. Some use just the baking soda. I am guessing 1 tsp of baked baking soda (technically washing soda for us) in a homemade batch of noodles is not toxic because they have been doing it for many decades if not longer?

I’ve been making my own soap now for about two years now. It’s a liquid version. Dr. Bonners, baking soda, kosher salt, hot water, and essential oil if you want. I love it.

I make my own laundry detergent but I put everything in a trash bag and is easier to mix. The only difference is that I add borax.
Thanks

Great Teci PO E. I spot clean with alcohol spray before washing most of cold gentle. I also add a third cup of white vinegar in each load to soften fabrics and boost cleaning.

I've been making my own laundry detergent for years with bar soap (Sunlight until I couldn't get it & ordered Fels-Naptha online), super washing soda, baking soda, mule team Borax, Downy Unstopables & Great Value Oxiclean. Then, I use the scoop from the oxiclean as the laundry scoop. Barely more than a heaping tablespoon. I very rarely ever use 2 scoops for anything unless it's REALLY dirty or really stinky. Whites have never been brighter, clothes have never been cleaner and I can still smell the clean laundry smell WEEKS later! Heather xo
