I wasn’t going to share (the pics disturb me) but thought that if anyone else out there has had mystery hives after a workout…then maybe this would be helpful.

I freaked out the first time it happened and I freaked out again today. The reason why it wasn’t as bad this time was because I ate 5 shrimp instead of 10 and stopped 20 min into my run instead of 30 min into it. Big props to Sam who told me to look at my food log from Jan 15. He somehow had a hunch it was the shrimp…

My body continues to surprise me. I guess I’m just going to skip out on shrimp entirely. If this is visibly happening after a run, what non-visible things are ACTUALLY happening under the surface? I don’t know but it doesn’t seem good.

I’m going to re-evaluate my diet and begin seriously logging again and paying closer attention to any reactions this week. I think my body has evolved and my diet needs to too.

Anyone else experience this? It’s super rare according to studies. I had never heard of it.

So weird…allergic to shrimp and running. Who would have thought???

My husband is allergic to sudden temperature transitions. Like he's fine with hot, cold, or slowly warming up / cooling down, but if he walks from a hot room into a room with AC, he'll get super itchy all over. So bizarre. (It's actually a thing though, he's been diagnosed by a doctor.)

I have straight up exercise induced anaphylaxis! I felt like I was the only one. It's only very intense cardio and it seems to be made worse by cold, but I've gone into anaphylactic shock a few times and now I just don't run just in case. Mine doesn't seem to have a food correlation though.

When I was younger i had a "combination allergy" too.
I was not allergic to cat hair or dust but cat hair+ dust+ autumn wind and chilly weather would give me full on rashes (similar to yours).

At first I thought I finally met someone like me, who's allergic to exercise. But that's interesting that it's a combo of those two

I have stomach pain from tea with milk, but not from either ingredient by itself. And the weirdest part is that plant milk does that too! The only exception is green tea - it's the only tea I can drink with milk.

I almost passed out seeing your video. I literally just finished working out and ate some cocktails shrimp from Central Market. Luckily I didn’t have a reaction but wow this is great to know. I hope you get to feeling better quickly

exactly. different bodies react differently.

but we still bully our friend who refuses to eat anything cheap 😂

Might have also been the kombucha! Kombucha is high in histamines and if you have HIT (Histamine Intolerance), it can worsen/increase the histamine response in your body.

Never knew it could be a combination of things causing an allergic reaction before. Learning new stuff all the time! It's great not knowing everything 💖🤩 there's always more to learn 😍

"Heyyy I can't make it to todays session, I ate shrimp!" - adding to list of excuses for when I want to bail on gym. XD

I feel you, I used to get hives when I exercised! It was caused by overheating and my own sweat. Even showers would trigger it. It only lasted a few years and eventually went away after high school.

This happened to my husband!!! For years he’s told this story about a seafood dinner at a restaurant his mother insisted on and going for a run and winding up in the hospital with a severe allergic reaction but had never been allergic before!!! He’s always blamed the restaurant or the detergent in the towels at the gym!!!

You kinda save me heh, I’ve had seafood allergies, but not to shrimps and crabs. I love those two and I’d always eat them for dinner when going out on special occasion (will explain later). I workout everyday after school, except for when we are going out to eat with my parents. One particular day however, I ate shrimp for regular dinner, after a few hours I started working out and got a bad allergy reaction. I had to went to the ER that night. We assume that the meals might have contain oyster or squid (which I am deadly allergic to), until coincidentally we were at a Japanese buffet the very next week. The only thing I ate that day were shrimp tempuras. I got home and did some lifting and I got another allergies. I was confused because I’ve always been fine with eating shrimps until I thought about this video and It makes sense! Now I’m more careful about my diets and workout routine thanks to you :))
