Why Do NBA Players STILL DO This DISGUSTING Thing?

I cannot believe that this is still happening in the NBA. Look at this crazy sequence.
Game is obviously over, so Austin Rivers just needs to dribble it out.
But he notices the clock differential, and when the shot clock expires, that’s a turnover.
So right at the end, he passes this hot potato to Ben Maclemore, who is well aware of what’s going on, and immediately passes it to Chris Clemons, who doesn’t even want to touch it.
I made a video about this last year, but it keeps happening. So let’s go through it again.
What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
Here’s the same situation just with the Cavaliers. The rookie Darius Garland dribbles out the clock, but at the end passes it to Sexton, who immediately passes it to Kevin Love.
And this isn’t anything new guys, I talked about this last season and I said that I hate the fact that players nowadays are so worried with their individual stats, that they will do things that are borderline unintelligent. Like getting rid of the ball at the end of games or waiting for the quarter to expire before they take a long shot so that their percentages don’t suffer and similar things like that. I’ll link that video in the description.
But focusing on the hot potato issue, the funniest thing is that a shot clock violation is not even registered as a player turnover, but rather as a team turnover. So the guy with the ball won’t even have it counted in his boxscore. But you know that’s what the constant thought about the numbers and individual statistics would do to a player. It causes irrational fears like this one.
I’m just surprised- considering how widespread this is throughout the NBA, why is the league or the teams themselves not reaching out to the players to let them know that this is not a thing that they should worry about.
And players worry because, with all the focus on analytics and numbers and efficiency, teams are looking at every aspect of a guy that they want to sign. All the numbers and percentages. So obviously there are some players who want to maximize their value and the money that they could get, by trying all kinds of tricks to make their boxscores look better. But this is not the way to go.
Interestingly enough, The one opposite reaction came from the Clippers rookie Kabengele who, look at how he notices, he’s well aware of the whole situation and actually offers to take the ball from the point guard, as the turnovers are much less impactful and looked at with big men, as opposed to playmakers. Again I need to stress that shot clock turnovers do not count against any particular player. They go as team turnovers. But not knowing that, it’s good to see a player offer to help out his teammate.
Anyway, NBA please let the players know that they shouldn’t be making a circus show at the end of games, and that there’s nothing to be afraid of. This is not affecting them.
Heat Check is on Instagram yall! I’ll post extra breakdowns different from the ones here, + these nice looking scribbled stats so make sure you follow at heatchecknba. That’s it for now, if you liked this video subscribe and hit the notification bell so that you don’t miss my future in depth analysis. Talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

Notice at :45 Kevin Love, a vet, holds the ball taking the TO. That's a champion right there.

I love how short and concise these videos are that white kyrie can put his whole script in the description

Notice how these are prevalent in scrub teams and teams that have chemistry issues.

This may be affecting entire team's moral, even if ever so slightly. I'm surprised that teams - who spend many millions and countless hours to optimise a player's and team's efficiency - would allow a player's ego to negatively affect relationships unnecessarily.

They should just end the game instead of waiting for the clock

Back in the day, players honored the game and their opponents by playing to the buzzer. None of them died that I know of. Basketball isn't what it used to be. Probably because the players aren't what they used to be. But the powers that be let it happen and here we are.

I never even noticed or cared about this. My tv is usually off at that point

Under 10s, they should just be able to end the game if both teams agree. So much awkwardness in those last seconds.

Do you know what they so worried about that ? Millions of dollars is the reason, some of them have a contract like if you dont have more than 200 turnover, you can take 300.000 dollars bonus

I think that there has to be a point during negotiations when Caused Team Turnovers are used against the players.
Even if it's wrong because getting the ball 0.2 before the clock ends is not your fault, I think that GMs somehow find a way to bring it up to pay the players less.
Which would explain why veterans and players with star status don't mind taking it.

What I dislike is not the "hot potato" game. What I dislike is that players stop playing when there are 20 or 10 seconds left if the scoreboard is not tight. That is lack of respect the public and to your team. Do your freaking job and score as many points as you can until the game is over!

It’s not that serious, it’s not affecting the outcome of the game which matters most

Because it is all about stats now. That's what you get when people debate on who's the greatest and just base things out of stats.

It's also the reason why we have stat padders like Westbroook.
