If you have the 2019 computer, just press on the Finger ID for Siri and ask her something. When she responds, the volume comes back. At least it worked for me!

Hi my friend, I tried absolutely EVERYTHING, carefully you suggested. And one more addition: I formatted my hard drive and re installed everything. Even after that, I followed your steps and the sound didn't come back.
2 important facts:

1- Before I formatted the hard drive, I had Mavericks (original) since ever and when the problem happened 2 months ago. Right before I formatted, for a little short time the sound device reappeared! It was detected even the sound was not really happening. In that moment the system was very very slow... But I could see it was there. Once again, even it was there, it was not reproducing any audio track...

2- After everything formatted and having Mojave in a fresh empty hard drive, the sound device was not detected again AND during the process you suggested I could listen CLEARLY the little opening sound after restart ( with command option p r ). For me, it means the is sound card is working fine! because speakers were reproducing fine! Then I can't assume the sound board is damaged, right?

I have no idea what else to try besides open this machine and replace the sound card. However my feeling says it is a logical problem rather than a physical. What do you say? Can you help me?

Thanks a lot
RB

THANK YOU you for making this video. Seriously, saved me a lot of stress with the reminder on how to do a PRAM reset, and made my day a little easier.

Oh my goodness!!! I have literally been online with Apple Support for the better part of the day to restore my sound. They were completely stumped and finally just made an appointment for me to have my laptop serviced. I took one last ditch effort to find a youtube even though I knew I couldn't hear it. First of all, thank you for reminding me I could use cc... BRILLIANT! My answer came with plugging in my earphones, and BINGO my problem solved! You're amazing! And why Apple couldn't come up with that simple answer is beyond me. THANK YOU SO I will cancel my servicing appointment and save some money. :)

I tried this multiple times and it didn't work. So I carefully opened up the computer and noticed that the internal speaker was not completely attached. Just a tiny push with one finger, and I felt a little "click". Carefully screwed the bottom back on the computer, and whallah!!!! That lovely rebooting noise is back and all sound functional. There are so many of these videos on here, perhaps they could suggest checking that if nothing else works.

I was using google chrome and YouTube glitched and I couldn’t hear any sound. I tried turning my volume up assuming I had accidentally muted it somehow, but it was already up. I started panicking and searched this video up on my phone and before watching I realized my sound was working on discord. Turns out I just had to exit out of YouTube and go back in it🤦‍♀️😂. Good video though, I’m glad you helped other people fix this problem!

This video was wonderful. It restored my volume! It was such a long process but the final solution of adding the administrator etc. somehow helped the volume to finally work. Thank you so so much!

I was very panicked when I found out there was no sound. Then I saw this video and followed every step. The first method didn't work, but the way to create a new admin worked. Thank you very much!!

Great video, sadly it didn't work for me. After some digging around I managed to get the sound on my MBA back. I did the following:
- When all options in the video fail, try connecting a USB soundcard.
- If this works: disconnect it.
- Open the console-app: "console" in spotlight.
- On the left, select your device.
- In the search-box top-right type 'audio' [enter]
- You should get some results, but as audio isn't working, there shouldn't be many.
- Now plug in the USB-soundcard.
- Check for errors, marked by yellow dots, en look for faulty ktext-files. In my case, I got two errors pointing to epsonprojectoraudio.ktext
- If these ktext-files aren't imporant, like a device you don't use or an old device, get the location of the file from the error
- Open the location and delete the files, or move them to another location.
- Reboot

In my case this fixed the problem after days of crawling the web for a solution. So, if nothing helps, maybe this provides a solution.
