In today's video, I'm back at the tourist railroad we volunteer at, putting news wheels and brakes on the A-5 Fairmont Speeder that belongs to the railroad. Another railroad volunteer is helping me complete the job. I use some vintage tools to help complete the job. It was a cold, rainy and windy day but we got the job done!

Thanks for sharing. At our local museum I thought the wheels were cast. Learn something new every day. It’s good of you to volunteer so the next generation can see how well built these old pieces of equipment were built.

It is a lot better than the hand pump truck they used to use. My grandfather was a roundhouse super before he retired. He then farmed 2, 500 acres of land. It was from him that I got my first lessons in preventative maintenance that have served me well. I worked for him in the summers as much as I could. He taught me how to maintain the Ford Jubilee that I drove almost daily. Got paid the same as everybody else on the farm - $4 a day. Not bad for a 12 year old in the 1950’s. I could lubricate every grease fitting on a Ford tractor almost blindfolded. I had to do all kinds of checks before I even cranked it up. Captain Jack was a real task master and would periodically check behind me to make sure I had done everything I was supposed to have done.

I see your working on the speeder cars, I used these back in the late 70s early 80s, we set off call dispatcher follow a train, using what they called a motorcar sheet, we used ground phones, no radios, we were good, we stayed within 600 feet of moving train and 200 feet of standing train, fun time working on the railroad.

Wow, It's Tuesday again already! That blows you gotta have somebody hold the backside of every wheel stud, at least you don't have to change wheels often....lol

I have a cp my grandfather gave me still have it today, it's been rebuilt and hits as good as new. It's fun doing jobs like that, something different keeps the brain happy and working. Good stuff!

Living in the road deicer state of Wisconsin I'm a fan of anti-seize 🙂. Good job on the wheels. I wonder how long it takes to wear them out.

Just seen this video but disappointed that you didn't actually show how you took wheel off and installed new. I have an MT14L that I need to purchase new wheel. And what are the wheels, cast, forged, stamped?
