Salt should not be so expensive. In terms of saltiness level, sea salt tends to be less saltier than iodized ones. Not sure what kind of salt the one in the small bottle is but pretty sure the cost is because of the jar and marketing expense.

I grew salt crystals in my lab for some students. Make a NaCl solution and let it dry out slowly in open air. Lovely large salt crystals. Same can be done with saturated CuSO4, or really any water soluble salts

In the end all salt is just NaCl. Sometim3s with some aded stuff like Himalayan pink salt. But its stull just salt

People seem to be confused about why salt can be so expensive and thinking there is no difference.
Some salts are harvested by hand, some are not.
Cheap salt is bulked out with ferrocyanide (yes cyanide) which is an anti caking agent, whereas in high end salts this tends to not be used. The quantities used aren't deemed toxic but it is still advised not to gobble down large amounts of cheap salt.

(Unrelated to the topic at hand but obviously don't overdo the salt anyway as around 30g can kill you.)

Maldon makes a smoked version that is absolutely delicious ❤it’s not cheap but if you use it as just a final touch you only need a tiny bit, so a box easily lasts a year or so.
