// My Story

I am currently a software developer who once modeled and thought I wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. While I was modeling in Hong Kong, I eventually felt the desire to further my education. I decided to depart the modeling world and move back to Canada, knowing that could be the end of my modeling opportunities. I attended Ryerson University for GCM (Graphic Communications Management), as I thought I might still work in the fashion industry in another capacity. It was in my last year of university, I was introduced to a very basic coding course. I instantly fell in love. From there I knew I wanted to pursue software development but didn't have a clue where to start. I didn't want to go back to university as I just completed a four-year degree. I decided to enroll in a 10-week intensive coding Bootcamp. From there I started working at a small startup learning and growing my technical and soft skills. I then transitioned to a larger company where I am a software developer and technical consultant today.

I got a 7-year-old girl and every night I spend at least an hour learning something new. Have to say that it is really hard, after a workday, feel so tired but still got to learn coding and embedded development stuff.

Thanks! What works for me is I have found that I need to actually schedule study time and I structure it. For example, I might study from 8-11 am on Sunday morning and I break it down to 1 hour of videos, 1 hour of reading and 1 hour of practice tests for example.

If you want it all, what I've learned is you have to be organised, and stick to your personal schedule and don't fall off it.

Well said. We need to choose the right people. Those who have the same goal and motive as us! Unfortunately, it is not easy to find them.

Yea, the best way is step by step. Time managing and for every task that I do I fully concentrate on that.

That accountability hack, by affirming things up to people whom u know or on discord or slack, that overall idea is actually quite effective.

Haha - I was going to say you should be a model but thought it was probably not appropriate in these times. Do a skin routine video as your skin looks flawless.

Am I somehow doing something wrong if I decide to work a part-time job in order to create more free time to learn? I figure I could do this by making sacrifices in other areas of my life. I live with 3 other roommates and my rent is only $350 a month. I make around $1400 every 2 weeks. I’m 26 and my father still treats me like he’s got control over my choices. I don’t even live with him anymore but he still lectures and critiques me about my decisions so it makes me feel guilty. He says I’m not being ambitious enough.
