Rockstar never told the reason for the gunshot heard in the end. There can be 2 possibilities:-
1. Claude wanted to stop maria from talking too much, so he fired the gun in the air.
2. Claude killed Maria so that there is no evidence or witness of the events left.

0:57, 6:04. This gang will be there in gta 6, and the twin siblings will fight against them one legally and one illegally. The new gta will be more connected to 3d Era. This tells us that gta 6 will be set on Columbia, Miami and more nostalgic places. The leaker mathues also confirmed that gta 6 prequel is set in 2003, just 2 years later after gta 3.
