Sarah Young claims to have received direct messages from the Lord, and those messages are what fills the pages of her vastly popular book titled "Jesus Calling." Should our theolog allow for extra Biblical revelation?

A friend just gave me this book as a gift for the new year. I am ten days in and am finding the first-person speech somewhat unsettling and presumptuous. I much prefer a serious study of the word leading to faith and assurance rather than purely calming encouragement, but I know that many people find that gives rest to their minds. I've just done a search for reviews and appreciate your insights.

Matthew 6:22
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Ephesians 5:8
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

You are so correct.
Thank you.
But they are still sold in Christian bookshops!

Yes the Bible is ALL of that but it does NOT replace the voice of the Living Jesus by His Spirit as confirmed in the Bible

Omg what?!? She's writing down messages that she receives from Holy Spirit?? What a novel concept! ✨Seriously, living in a world like this, if more people where praying and sitting still in Gods presence on other days than Sunday, i bet we would see alot more books than this. This lady is a child of God like anyone watching this video. She has a right and obviously a calling to speak her truth in the form it was given to her. Judge ye not. If it's not for you, so be it. I was on the verge of taking myself clean outta this world, and i picked up that book. By a "fluke". What i read was what i needed to keep going at least one more day. And i kept on going by the Grace of God. 🙏 If God can make the rocks cryout and speak through a homeless person on the street, surely he can use this woman for good. There is not one person who is a perfect vessel. And who is anybody to say she wasn't hearing directly from the King?? He is litterally our family. Like a brother, father, and friend. 💜 Every person, whether they are reading that book or listening to a critic talking about a book, should use discernment. Not only here and now, but ongoing. May the Peace ✌️🕊️ of Christ be with you.

Best Devotional Book ever Inspired By God

A very inspiring read which prompts one to reflect on their own state of being. The importance of living ones life in loving consideration and kindness in no way conflicts with the message of Christ. Prayer, answered with the assistance of that still quiet voice of the Holy Spirit, might be considered a form of channeling. It is always available for us, if we choose to quiet our mind and listen for these promptings. The nature of the message will indicate if it is true or not. Let us strive to always be loving, considerate and kind to one another.

The Bible is sufficient. If you need a daily devotional, read the Bible.

I haven't read this book but being retired from Barnes and Noble it's a book I'm definitely aware of and have avoided mostly because, from the outside looking in, the Jesus Calling franchise strikes me as more of a business than anything else. All we need now are the action figures. That said, I think some channeled material is definitely inspired. And isn't all revelation channeled anyway? The idea that the bible is the last word on spirituality is a Christian talking point and good for the business of Christianity, I suppose, but you've got to do a lot of tap dancing to get around all the problems in the bible, for me the carrot and stick approach being the biggest. I've been studying A Course in Miracles for the past couple of years, and am now reading it through for the third time. If you haven't read it, I will understand any knee jerk reaction you may have. ACIM isn't New Age, nor dogma, nor moralistic, nor a book of rules to follow. There is no condemnation. What it succeeds at, brilliantly in my opinion, is training the mind to think spiritually. It's been called a masterpiece of spiritual psychotherapy and I can't argue otherwise. Briefly, ACIM describes the motives of the two voices inside our heads, that of the Holy Spirt and that of the ego/adversary. It's perspective is consistently non-dual, and once the idea of non-duality is accepted, the logic presented in ACIM is impeccable. It's consistent in its logic and message from 1st page to last, which is what one would expect from a legitimate spiritual text. After having read the bible countless times and with the perspective I've gained from ACIM, it seems to me that the bible is the ego's interpretation of the Christian message. The truth is in the bible, but it's like a treasure hidden in a field. I think the dualist viewpoint of the bible is intentional. God lets the ego have its say. The good cop, bad cop view of God in the bible trains us to think critically about this most important of subjects. We discover, in the bible, who God is by the contrasting message of what he isn't. Hence, the violent behavior of God in the OT and the idea of hell. I've sold used cars in my life but I'm not trying to sell you this book. If it's meant for you, it will find you. ACIM itself states that its message is not exclusive to ACIM and that the true seeker will find the truth in the way that he can best understand it. Bottom line, there are two voices inside our heads, one real the other imaginary. ACIM teaches us the difference.

What do Pastors do on a Sunday morning from the pulpit? Has God spoken to them while preparing their sermons? Are they saying "Thus sayeth the Lord"? The book does not make any claims of future prophesy. It is simply the inspired thoughts of the Holy Spirit to someone who is engaging with Scripture and prayer and then writing down what she feels God has revealed to her during her private time with Him. She does not claim to be a prophet. The measure of authenticity should be, "is what she says in agreement with scripture or not?" All criticism should be based around this question. Yours is not.

I think there are more important issues like Satanic rituals and child trafficking, all Sara did was shared her journaling and helped a lot of hurting people who had trauma in there life, stop waisting your time on this, it’s like beating a dead horse

I have this devotional. All of it is based on scriptures. God uses people to spread His word and the good news around the world. It is meant to inspire and make us more conscious of God's presence. I am not sure why it is being so attacked with a warning. As with anything, take it and test it's content against the word of God. Stop causing division. You are not an expert as to what is revealed to others in a book or a prayer, or any type of writing. Everyone's faith is at a different place, including yours. So, you should not be judging if these messages are valid or not. As long as it lines up with the Word, the Holy Spirit speaks to us, if we listen and are walking with Him. Many people will hesitate to pick up a bible, but not a devotional. Calm down. I journal and God speaks to me, I share at times with others and there are times I do not.

There is nothing wrong with the book. Whatever she was into has no power over Jesus.
None. I use the book... daily.. it's sound.. the context is sound.. you just need to understand that it's not really Jesus lol.. the bible you are sitting with it.. is jesus.. The word is Jesus...
That book isnt.. When you approach it like that.. and understand that the book in itself has NO POWER.. BECAUSE ITS A BOOK.... IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT SHE WAS INTO OR DID... IT CANT OVER POWER CHRIST LOL .
Do you believe your bible or not? Probably not..
Most don't know the half...
The whole world is deceived according to Revelation 12:9, we are stepping into the new world order of revelation 13 now.. Jesus returns in chapter 14... and you guys are more worried about this stuff ?!?!!?
Man... the Bible itself tells us to avoid this.. avoid foolish arguments. Yes she used the church to make money.. yes she was into some weird stuff...
Is the book sound? YES!
I know.. because I've studied it... I use it.. with my bible.. And I just had the biggest breakthrough in my life from Jesus.. so I don't wanna hear it lol.. yall are focused on the wrong stuff.. distracted as usual...
For those with ears to hear and eyes to see... please see my BLUE BOOK WITH THE F.. YOU KNOW.. THE F BOOK... THE BLUE ONE...
Search my name.. Eugene Butler III Or link / EugeneButler3rd
See my pinned post.. see my testimony.. see my life.. I promise you.. Jesus is alive and well...
He just gave me a CROSS WITH A HEART in the sky.. 3 days after praying for a sign.. of Biblical Creation. I was asking for a sun picture tucked in the clouds.. instead he gave me a cross with a heart.. from the sun...
Jesus is alive.. the word is Jesus.. that book isnt...
But that doesn't make the book bad.. trust me.. i use it.. and sometimes I teach from it...
Live on my page. I juat did some this morning.
So please stop arguing over this... The Bible is the ultimate authority. But that doesn't mean we can't use stuff like this...
I don't believe she did all that...
I believe she knows the word enough to write it and she wrote it.. then she played yall.. to get the money.. she did what the pharisees did.. and what all the Mega churches still do.. she lies.. and gets money.. off the TRUTH.
The book is sound scripture wise.. and in the context of how she wrote it.. it matches the context of the scripture.
You just have to understand... She played yall.. but she does know the word... The Bible says even the demons know and tremble..
She did what she did..
But don't let that keep you from using the book with wisdom and discernment...
Because I promise you.. I've been using it to bring people to Jesus from the streets and prison.. and on social media.
I promise.

If the book helps you feel closer to God, what is the issue?  The goal is to draw closer to God; nothing else is as important. She supports her statements with scripture, not personal opinions.  The devil is a lair.  Many people profess faith in God but don't accept every biblical passage, yet God's word is God. If you dont fully believe in the bible then you dont believe in God for the bible is flawless Proverbs 30:5
"Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him"
She could of been a full on atheist, but God will use people that dont believe or could be blasphemers, Imperfected for his purpose.  Matthew 1 God accomplishes His plan with imperfect people, and His grace is greater than our sin. The Holy Spirit, God in you will convicted you of any wrong doing even if reading a book like hers could lead you in the wrong direction.  Focus should shift from the speaker's identity to the message conveyed; in this instance, the content of the devotional writings.  Does this practice support your spiritual growth and enhance your connection with the divine?  Is its primary focus on God?  When I read her book, it feels as though God himself is speaking to me, and she always adheres to his scriptures. People are just plan haters and thats as simple as it gets.  It says when your become a Christian you become a target and you will be hated because of his name. Matthew 10:22 And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved. Anybody focusing on this woman and not the book itself does not have the Holy Spirit in them.
Ephesians 6:12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.  Instead of concentrating on the author, let's focus on the content itself. Does it draw you closer to God? Does it help you to be more obedient to the scriptures? Ultimately, isn't that what truly matters?
