Today was not planned. It snowed a lot and I decided to film how our Tesla model 3 standard range plus did in the snow. This is probably the last snow of the year and I wanted to know if the model 3 standard range plus RWD could handle the snow. The Tesla Model 3 is by far the best car we have ever owned! We are here to help you decide which Tesla is the right one for you. We are documenting our journey in the EV world and hope you will join us!

Just to be clear I have the stock 18inch all season tires. Winter was supposed to be over. Also, I have no regrets about getting the RWD in Colorado. We have maybe 10 days of snow packed roads in a 365 day year. And with proper winter tires I would have faired much better. Just sharing my story today with you.

I think with winter tires you would be fine

These settings would be more helpful during snowy weather.
Acceleration - Chill
Steering Mode - Comfort
Regenerative Breaking - Low
Stopping Mode - Creep (I always have it on)
Slip Start - used if the car is stuck in the snow or mud.

Slip start is a huge mistake. It's designed if your stuck and then cant get the slippage you need to rock the car out of the spot ur in.

I owned a rear-wheel-drive Merc CLK diesel with plenty of torque, undrivable in snow and spun in wet cold weather. I changed to winter tyres and in deep snow, uphill, or away from traffic lights aginst a 4WD Land Rover, the Merc smashed it, the difference in snow and compared to standard all-weather tyres is night and day. I have my SR+ on order and should be with me in November UK, I definitely will be fitting snow tyres as they also work well at temps below 7c, they are not just for snow traction, they also stop you at a shorter distance.

You’re not supposed to use slip start while driving. Maybe that got you stuck.

slip start is only if you are already stuck it basically turns off traction control so you tires can keep spinning and get you out of it

I live in Norway with snow 5 moth a year. I drive Nissan Leaf with no problems. It's all up to the shoes you put on your car. I allsow have a new m3p but it's summer her now.

Thanks for the video. I'm looking at SR. I live in the UK and we rarely get snow around the south of England where I live and work (London/Essex). I am not sure if it's worth my justifying the extra money for a LR because of it

Glad you and TM3 are ok! Rwd definitely needs winter tires in winter..the difference are night n day. I used to owned a Miata in Toronto for 7 years.

Should have maybe turned off slip start -it's like turning traction control off

This is the exact reason why I want awd and snow tires. It's all fun in games until you have to bug someone else to bail you out. If you can afford a Tesla it's inexcusable to be unprepared in the winter.

This is the video I was searching for thanks. Well maybe not the exact one. Just wondering if the testla model 3 RWD can make it through a blizzard in Colorado with snow tires. Up steep hills, like the ones by my house.

I think while driving you should have had slipstart off, will give better traction control... only turn on when stuck

I don't understand. Why don't you go back and forth til you get out?

A few solutions. 1 the tesla 3 long range with proper tyres 2 . proper tyres and snowsocks 3. my toyota rav 4 hybrid 4, . try to drive in de oposit direction rearwards 5. foresee a sac of sand to create some grip under your rear wheels 6. call the assistance

I've said this to so many Americans. Winter tires! Nordic winter tires! Not European winter tires, not all season. Nordic winter tires when it's snowing. In Sweden no one would hit the road in this condition with the wrong tires. This test is irelevant because of that. In Sweden and most of Europe it's illigal to drive during the winter with summer tires or "all season". Awd wouldn't help much at all in this case. Thanks for the amusement though 😂. Keep it up!

Hey, great video! Quick question for you, did you install the fog lights or did the car come with them?

You need those things that go on your tires for winter. Makes all the difference

Oh thank god it’s nothing like this in Fort Collins! My friend in co springs was telling me about how he nearly got stuck going home from work.
