Macgregor is the author of five books, a PhD, and an expert in strategy, policy, and defense. The conversation centers around 'Margin of Victory. Five Battles that Changed the Face of Modern War', a book by Colonel McGregor that was published ain 2016.

You can think about MacGregor’s positions on “culture war” and immigration all you like - on the Ukraine war and Russia he is spot on, and a true voice of reason. I don’t usually trust “military men”, but i really like this one. He is a true historian and very few understand war as well as he does. Our politicians and much of the public ignore this guy at great peril.

I left the military in 2002, just before the invasion of Afghanistan then Iraq. All my mates went and numberous were killed and injured. I was still quite young and thought extremely hard about going back. I thought hard for months, keeping myself awake at night, all night, every night. I nearly re enlisted but something wasn't right. It smelled bad, like it wasn't a justified conflict that i could justify to myself. I decided not to go and im now very happy with that decision, it was correct. I feel and hope that many young men now will feel the same about this awful, messy conflict in the Ukraine. They need more cannon fodder and i hope the boys sense its wrong and get the hell away from it because its going to be catastrophic if we get involved the ground.
