What gets me the most is the fact that he sits up and sees the blood and his guts spilling out. My god, I feel so horribly bad for him and his family... When people die to freak accidents, it's a blessing in disguise if the victim dies instantly rather than being aware that something horrid has happened...

for those curious but dont want to look up the video: he was basically split in half.

God, I hate this story so much. He looked just utterly shocked when it happened and the blood on the snow. It was truly horrific.

As someone who watched that video, that bleeding was a little more than internal

Really sad how he sat up and saw the blood coming out of him :[

Saw this video...and there was much more than just internal bleeding. He left a lot of himself on that hill, & his legs looked like they were attached just by loose, old rubber bands (he did the splits with ZERO TENSION in the legs). Brutal.

I don't think a lot of people realize how dangerous Pelvic fractures are.

The Safety nets kills more than saving the ski players

Due to his death, they had to make the holes in the safety nets smaller so the ski tip would not be able to be tangled in them

Dear lord, that sounds incredibly painful and a death that was probably filled with suffering.

I looked the video up because my curiosity got to me. I regret it … It’s not for the faint of heart. That poor man didn’t deserve that horrible fate.

The original video of this crash, was one of the top five grossest things I've ever seen in my life. it was several years ago, but I'll still never forget watching it. I still have the image in my head of when he stops sliding, and his legs were in the wrong position and the snow is turning dark red.

Here’s the thing, he was doing the splits. But before… he wasn’t able to. That’s not because he was flexible…

The original was actually crazier you can see him realise that his organs are out and passes out on the snow, what a gnarly way to die

The problem with skiing is that you are latched to a mechanism that stiffens your lower leg to ankle, and you have to bend backwards at stupid angles to get out of it or have a long pole on hand, which in a fall, you won’t have and therefore you can’t get out even if you wanted to.

Then there’s this case. Since you have no good, fast means of stopping, going fast into a less movable object, like a tree or strong barriers will either maim or kill you.

My time skiing was bad, but not as bad as this. I have big feet, which means the boots are heavy and hard to handle, they feel like wearing bricks for shoes. During the one time I skied, I went down the tiny beginners “hill” covered with ice, tried to slow down, but I was accelerating too fast and couldn’t stop. In the end, I went into a ravine at the end and crashed into some pallets, which trapped my skis underneath and it took me a full 20 minutes bending backwards to try to get out while in decent pain from my stiff ankle connection to the boot yo the skis, while no one helped me and I was only able to get out after a person I knew came to check in on me after 20 minutes.

Skiing is more unsafe because of the mechanism that holds you to the skis. And when you crash into things even at low speeds it will be painful because the skis act like a lever except instead of a seesaw with a pivot point, it bends and creates a high-energy spring that causes serious injury by applying enough force at your weakest ankle point and your bones will very possibly fracture if the stress applied is greater than what your body, which is weaker than the metal boot, cannot handle the excess stress.

I think if recreational skis weren’t built the way they are, skiing would be a heck of a lot safer. Especially if places that allow skiing don’t coat the ground with stupid low friction ice and added emergency parachute backpacks as emergency brakes, with the ability to provide airbags in case of impact as a standard, we wouldn’t have people always breaking their bones.
