China, one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and a signatory to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, has criticized Washington's move, calling it "political manipulation". The Chinese Foreign Ministry said sanctions on Iran are not the right strategy to apply.

Trump, Mike, Steve Bannon are masters of the scammers they scam 25 million dollars from Trump fans' border walls to profiteer in their pockets. This is how con men work together hand in hand.

Sanction should be applied to country that walked away from the deal.

Having heard varied criticisms hurled at China by some American political analysts and commentators, my parting shot is this. Beyond economics, strategic geopolitical jostling for power and influence to sustain global leadership and post Cold war rivalries and competition, common sense, decency and the spirit of cooperation ought to return and prevail in the mainstream of global politics and international diplomacy where the light of the righteous and its might may triumph over vindictiveness and darkness. US must recognise that it cannot change China for its own intent and purposes in the name of democracy as both sovereign states are of different idealogies and political systems fundamental to the core of their being and realpolitik. Any attempts otherwise will result in conflict and disintermediation of the global peace and commons, causing great suffering to the world. China has re-doubled its efforts to reach out in these uncertain times and will continue to refine its approaches to better communicate and collaborate with the US but never at the expense of its core interests. Both countries have so much more to gain from cooperation than confrontation that will eventuate in lose-lose outcomes.

In a globalised and deeply networked world, greater US-China collaboration will be to its benefit, not less as present day issues cannot be resolved by any single country on its own but needs a concerted effort and coordinated response to address global issues that confront humanity, for example, the COVID pandemic. It knows no borders. Efforts in combating the pandemic by national governments alone within its borders will not suffice. Led by the WHO, national governments need to mount and coordinate multilateral responses that traverse borders to deal effectively with the pandemic in time. Bickering, finger pointing and side stepping the issues amongst governments will not help in this cause. Cooperation needs to prevail for humankind's sake and continued livability on our only planet Earth.

On its part, US ought to engage in a deeper self-reflection on how it can do better in improving the situation and the state of bilateral relations with the humility and wisdom afforded by great power status going forward instead of erecting barriers to communication and dialogue furthering mutual understanding and hopefully, lead to consensus or minimally, agree to disagree, in moving forward the bilateral agenda and relations for a productive relationship into the future that serves both sides' national interests and the common good pertaining to global growth and security. President Xi has reached out without the burden of idealogy and political tradition with the aim to collaborate, praised by his US counterpart in handling the pandemic before relations took a turn for the worse as COVID traversed the US. He needs an opposite number in the American leadership to meet him halfway or at least some semblance of it to form and sustain a stable, healthy and productive relationship.

Its not about US accommodating China's rise but according it the rightful respect just as how America would like to be respected itself that must underpin the basis of relations, meaningfully, mutual respect to progress the interactions. Dialing back the tensions and detoxifying the pervading acrinomy is a logical first step. The current state: American dominance and bullying versus China's assertiveness is not a good place to be locked in. US is apt at wielding soft power to achieve its policy goals and objectives. Constructively, it may want to rely more on soft power, informal talks and behind-the-scene negotiations to advocate and advance its aims set out than to engage in a full-on confrontation with China, played out in full glare of the media, likened to a blitz. Such strategies do nothing in contributing to resolving outstanding issues substantively or furthering global dialogue and cooperation, conjured up as mere political rhetoric or 'hot air' to be ignored and dismissed but given today's media cycle and mass propagandistic nature, be responded with counter statements leading to an ineffectual vicious cycle of blame juxtaposing with clarification. This is a call to action in the positive as wise counsel may permit for a better and more united world where reversing globalisation's gains may be catastrophic. Not talking just for the sake of it, leading to nowhere.

A global conversation not just of national governments but private sector multinationals as valid and equal stakeholders who theoretically be accorded greater weightage to the value of their opinions as business decisions underpinned by sound economics and business realities must take precedence over politics as corporates are directly impacted by political decisions that influence and direct trade and business flows. This will help to advance globalisation and build global physical infrastructure and high performance information networks carrying manufactures (goods) and data (services) respectively which need to happen in the interest of the world's long-term good, despite prevailing political rhethoric.

A more open and increasingly networked world where there is freedom of exchange and information across national borders goes to the very essence of the WHO's raison d'etre. It is critical to the global fight against the pandemic vis-a-vis drawing lines, greater insularity culminating in silo mentalities and guarding turf. There is an age-old adage that informs leadership is not going at it alone but together. My qualification to that: It must be guided by the right analysis, perspective and context supported by a dispassionate review of the pros and cons and corresponding tradeoffs arising from each policy position, reinforcing the former, leading the polity in forging the way forward, informed by social values and ideals and cultural perspectives.

A case in point. US trade war on China does not solve its deficit problem that arises from the lack of American export competitiveness in its manufactures but shift those deficits to other trading partners that supply US with higher priced and lower quality goods, leading to inflation and diminished living standards without addressing the core competitiveness issues of America's manufacturing industries. The decline seen in these industries is not caused by globalisation and trade itself but the gradual loss of economic activities and jobs owing to differentials in national comparative advantage that underpin trade between nations and emergence of new and promising industries such as energy renewables and Internet-based companies, rejuvenating and revitalising the whole economy just as in the cycle of nature. The challenge therein is to retrain and reskill pre-existing workers to transit into the growth sectors to take on newly created jobs and work with new business models, minimising social disruption and displacement to ensure that as many as possible move forward in a changed economy instead of pandering to economic nationalism and protectionist views which is the easy way out in making the economic case and justification for national political leadership so that no one is left behind.

Data is the new gold in the knowledge-based, information economy where intellectual capital commands a premium, a precious resource to many of America's indigenous technology companies that flourish with the thriving of the Internet and not its curtailment. The notion of a foolproof system or software that cannot be preyed on by the most determined and malicious hackers for their own intent and purposes is arbitary and unrealistic even with the best of efforts in ensuring data security and privacy. An enhanced data protection regime is not a panacea to data security issues. In this, we need common sense and decency, faith and trust in the goodness and rationality of people and the sanctity and pre-eminence of state and federal laws in enforcing contractual rules that bind parties where the law of the contract is sacrosanct and paramount just as in any legitimate commercial transaction or agreement bounded by laws to prevail on the governance of business conduct, assuming the presumption of innocence.

I just love political jousting from all sides! Makes great viewing! On a serious note, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has taken the high ground, I wonder whether this is the right time, given what is at stake is only Iran (with due respect to all the Iranians here). To hear Zhao Lijian say that with a serious face - lol. Political manipulation - we all know everyone in the UN (especially those that are permanent members) do a bit or a lot of that.
