Mars is the fourth planet from the sun an is one of the terrestrial planets because it has a central core, rocky mantle and a solid crust. It has a distinctive RED color associated with battles and war and named after the Roman God of War. Its surface is reddish-brown color due to the rusting of the surface materials, that's why its also known as "The Red Planet". It has also got other colors like gold, tan and brown. Mars is the second smallest planet. It's core is mad up of Iron, Magnesium, Aluminum, Calcium and Potassium. Mars has the Biggest crater in the Solar System, called Valles Marineris. It also has the biggest Volcano called Olympus Mons. The atmosphere is made up of 95% Carbon Dioxide, which is very similar to Venus. The day temperatures on Mars reaches 20 degrees Celsius and night time it reaches -153 degrees Celsius. Did you know that you can feel two different temperatures at the same time on Mars.... If you stand on the equator it will be zero degrees Celsius at your head and 24 degrees Celsius at your feet!! There's super strong winds on Mars, causing dust storms which can take months to settle. And that's the biggest storms in our solar system! Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos and they are potato shaped! Mars has 24 hours in a day but 687 days in one year!
