HDR is not just about peak brigthness. It is also useful for having more dark levels in dark scenes.

You know what would be crazy and feel similar to the Skyrim moment for the original Switch trailer?
If they showed it playing Elden Ring

honestly if its an LCD as good as the PS Portal I will not complain

Good quality LCD is almost as good as OLED. The big difference between Switch 1 and OLED, which people are forgetting is that the LCD wasn't laminated and we had that big AIR gap between the touch and the screen itself. Just this alone is HUGE difference. Fully laminated screens are even big sale point for Apple iPad's.

The Switch is my favorite Console. I have found a new love for genres i thought i would hate. And have made many memories with it. Taking it on hikes and playing pokemon in the middle of the woods on a rainy day is still one of the most surreal experiences I have had and that was simply from it being a handheld like the gameboy. I know theres a lot of paste eaters like "tHe StEaM dEcK iS bEtTeR" or "ThE sWiTcH hAs No GaMeS" but man thats not what its about. It's about the games. if you have fun or if you don't. Doesn't matter how. I can't wait for new memories and experiences with the Switch 2.

It is hilarious how much Nintendo content creators are padding out their content at the moment, talking round in vague circles just to drive their engagement. That was 13 minutes of barely anything useful or interesting being said, and I like this channel 😅

I like how spawnwave keeps thinking Nintendo would push for that $450 when it don't make sense, when they're supposed to be the cheap option.

Always have to reiterate for the slower kids in class: You don't want a bad OLED if you can have a good LCD screen. There's _really_ good LCD screens. And there's _really_ shitty OLED screens.

I'm gonna be honest, I was kinda like "so what?" right until the latter half of the video. It makes a ton of sense that developers would be more inclined to use such features when it's baked into the system.

I also think Nintendo has been working on an improved HD Rumble that is far superior over the original Switch.

I took some quick measurements using Nintendo's images. The Switch 2 will maintain a 16:9 aspect ratio. If Nintendo releases a screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR, it is likely to also have a higher screen resolution. While not a forgone conclusion, most manufacturers offering a similar feature set almost always use a 1080p or higher screen resolution.

However, keep in mind that Nintendo employs a custom screen tailored to its specified parameters. Therefore, 720P remains entirely feasible for controlling manufacturing costs. The cost of the display will depend mainly on contract negotiations, guaranteed bulk purchases, operational costs, supply availability, and other factors.

Some possible suppliers for the display include Sharp, LG, Japan Display, Samsung (Nintendo's Current OLED supplier), BOE, and others.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to have an 8-inch display.

A 1280 x 720p display would provide 184 PPI for Switch 2.

A 1920 x 1080p display offers a PPI of 275 for the Switch 2.

At 275 PPI, Switch 2's screen would be sharp enough to be considered "Retina, " borrowing from Steve Jobs's analogy for the iPhone 4 to describe a display so crisp that the human eye can no longer distinguish the individual pixels forming the images on the screen. (This is based on an average viewing distance of 14 inches from your eyes to the display.)

I also expect the Switch 2 to have a display brightness of around 400 to 500 peak nits. 🙂 (Going beyond that, it is possible, but it could be harmful to the battery depending on how the LCD manages power consumption)

Note: I wouldn't be surprised to see a custom nonstandard screen resolution of 1600 x 900p. (Or something really screwy like 1760 x 990p)

With the top usb-c port we can technically "dock" the switch 2 in tabletop mode. Maybe these options with huge battery life impact are only turned on if there's a charging cable connected.

Imagine Metroid prime 4 announced for switch 1 and takes so long the switch 1 becomes obsolete

for me at this point a lot of LCDs are way better than when the switch 1 launched and I would rather have these other features over it just being an OLED. 120 and VRR is a big enough upgrade for me to give that up.

I mentioned this in some other video but I'm someone who has the OG Day 1 Switch from 2017 that I pre-ordered from Target. It's been 8 years later and the screen STILL looks vibrant and clear with great viewing angles. So all this hand wringing about HDR or the LCD vs OLED is silly when you haven't seen the machine up close yet and you don't know what the newest LCD technology looks like. We will get a better idea in 11 days on 4/2 in terms of what this can do, how it looks, and so forth. Personally, 95% of the time I play in docked mode anyway and I'm more interested on what games will be unveiled at launch. Nintendo has been extremely quiet and secretive more than usual regarding this launch so it must be for a good reason and we'll find out soon enough. 😃

Bro a 3d mario or 3d Zelda in 120 fps would be amazing. For us here commenting it may be whatever but all my friends who aren’t into this as much, trust me their minds will be blown

What I think is that it'll have VRR, HDR, etc but only while docked and running thru the TV.
While in handheld, it'll probably have that 120 Hz and other features.

The 120 Hz thing is a big changer. It's like when I went from the iPhone 7 Plus to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. I could notice the screen difference right away.
