I Could Be Wrong - JTM (read description below)

The first 17 years of my life were Hell. I was abused physically and emotionally almost daily. The most scarring events were me as an 11 yr-old, being beaten with a two by four to the point where I couldn’t move. All I could do was cry & wonder what parts of my body were broken. The second was being stripped down to my underwear and being locked in a dog kennel along with my younger brother for hours. I haven’t spoken to my parents in years, & because I have no plans to speak with them, I wrote “I Could Be Wrong”. This song & video illustrate a hypothetical conversation between them and myself where they finally tell me they’re sorry. In this video I play both of my parents and myself. The entirety of my childhood I would get asked about bruises, scars, black eyes and I would either lie or say nothing. There are so many kids dealing with what I did. To those children, if you are reading or watching, I want you all to know there is a God above that loves you who is aware of you. You can go to Him for comfort through these miserable & unbearable times. I also want you to know as someone who’s gone through it, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It does get better.

Lyrics:

Chorus
Are you Tellin me that it's almost over?
Say to me there's light at the end of this tunnel
You could be right I could wrong
We could just fight and we could be strong
Tellin me that it's almost over?
Say to me there's light at the end of this tunnel
You could be right I could wrong
We could just fight and we could be strong

Verse
Go head and leave you gone complain
Finna find another way
The man I said I'd know I'd be
Grew up he here to stay
You look at me I know see boi breaking all da rules
Well I ain't that guy who ain't got time, found another avenue.

Pre Chorus
Said Oh I been waitin holding all dat shame
Oh I been I’ve been waiting I was way off base
Said Oh I been waitin holding all dat shame
Oh I been waiting I was way off base

Verse
Ain't saying that I spent my life ain't nothin gone to waste
But I see the way you hold your heart when you lookin at my face
I'm full a dirt from all them roads and I barely made it blind
So if you holdin on to all your gold then you leavin me behind

Pre Chorus
Said Oh I been waitin holding all dat shame
Oh I been I’ve been waiting I was way off base
Said Oh I been waitin holding all dat shame
Oh I been waiting I was way off base

You could be right I could be wrong
You could be right I could be wrong
You could be right I could be wrong
You could be right I could be wrong

The amazing thing about James, is that he had this awful, terrible experience, but he chose to make good with his life, even though so many that are brought up like this, choose to go down wrong paths

I think in life we all lose belief but someway we always find God back into our lives. It’s not that God left we just stop believing. The reality of life we get stuck in a rut and believe things should be one way just because. I’m 52 and I found god back into my life. I’m just trying to find my purpose with God. My heartbreaks for you but you waking up each day gives you hope. Continued prayers for peace and just know you may not be loved by the people that brought you in this world but you are always loved by GOD❤️

I loved this song the first time I heard it, earlier today. That was before reading the video description and learning what it was about. I'm shocked to learn what you went through.

Today, I listened to at least 20 of your songs and every one of them was awesome - you are extremely talented! Thank you for turning your struggles and pain into positive music that uplifts so many people. You are an amazing human!

First off, I just want to thank you for sharing your talent with us through music. I have many family members who have, and are still pursuing a career doing music so I understand the hardships that accompany that path. I know that you’ve been blessed with the ability to paint pictures through your words. I’ve enjoyed so many of your songs, and I can say whole heartedly that you’re pure amazing. This was confirmed when you spoke at a fireside in my home stake in the bay area. You shared personal experiences in your past life like how you overcame adversity. It really touched a lot of our youth, and I want to thank you. I hope you never stop telling your story. Just know no matter where you go with your career after this album, you’ll always have a true Tongan fan here in the bay area.

This song is top of my list. I can almost feel the pain that you felt. I love how honest you are about what happened to you, and that you’re willing to share with us. What resonated most with me, is that when others hurt me in any way, I use to think that just distancing myself from them would make everything better. Obviously the Christlike thing to do is forgive, but it’s something that Ive struggled with. Im not perfect, but I try to be more intentional now when I forgive others.

I hope that one day you can forgive your parents for what they’ve done. Its what Christ would do, and I know that in the end, you’d feel weight lifted and a greater peace will come into your life.

Keep up the great work. PLEASE DON’T STOP MAKING MUSIC. And next time you come visit the bay, Id be beyond grateful to hangout! You’re the best!!

I had no idea he had to endure so much pain for this song. It has been one of my favourites!! I have listened to hit literally 100's of times and never knew the level of pain behind it. I would love to see a colab between him and my man Teddy Swims the pain and soul from those 2 that track would be unreal they really know how to connect with the soul of a song and deliver it. It's such a gift!

Absolutely inspiring, James. I'm glad you could share this message to all of us in the form of music. I'm glad you have been able to over come those challenges you were faced with in the past. This video, this message is more than just music. It's motivation. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. There is a God that loves us all. Killed it James. Don't ever stop being you.

James, this is beautiful, it nearly brought me to tears. My childhood wasn't as bad as yours was but I can relate to some of the pain you feel. Thank you for being so real and sharing your light despite your tragic upbringing. I wish more people could rise above their circumstances like you are doing. ❤❤
