How to create the lofi or radio guitar effect in metal songs

Learn how to create the lo-fi guitar/"radio effect" you've heard in so many metal and metalcore songs.

Joel Wanasek shows how to do it in Cubase using the stock EQ plugin and some automation, but the same approach should work in any DAW with any EQ plugin.

NAIL THE MIX is an online mixing school created by Joey Sturgis, Joel Wanasek and Eyal Levi - the guys who produced bands like TDWP, Chelsea Grin, Blessthefall, Machine Head, Monuments, Miss May I, Of Mice & Men, Reflections, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and dozens more of this generation's best metal bands.

Every month, NAIL THE MIX members get exclusive access to the REAL MULTI-TRACK SESSIONS from a REAL ALBUM, and a 6-8 hour live streaming class from the producer who mixed it. These are the actual sessions by bands like Gojira, Meshuggah, Periphery, Papa Roach, Machine Head, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember and more - and NTM is the only place in the world you'll get access to them!

I’m trying to figure out how to do a REAL glitch. Saw one of your other videos, but still having a little trouble creating a radio ready version.

Can you achieve this sound with a pedal in a live application? Like maybe with an EQ pedal?

Im running cubase le 5 and when i tried using my high/low pass filters i didnt really get the same tone. I just sounded like it was changing the volumn to go from quiet to loud instead getting the effect. Am i doing something wrong or

is it an issue with cubase 5 stock eq

Do you know if there is a pedal that can achieve this or if it is only during processing.

Will you do something like that to make a part of a song sound like an old vynil?

Sometimes I would also throw in a bitcrusher and reverb to taste. Also would it be better to do this on the master bus?

Well, I'm never using this. Not like this. The opening effect on the filter sounds so freaking bad on distorted guitars. On electronic music I can handle it, but real distorted guitars?

I'd instead switch the filter ON and OFF without the fade.
