ABC News' 2019/2020 Queensland Bushfire coverage led the broadcast media's reporting of this unprecedented, unfolding, natural disaster, from being the first and only broadcaster to cover the crisis' first major blaze at Stanthorpe on the State's Granite Belt, to providing vital in 24/7. ABC News was the only outlet to be reporting live as the unprecedented fire season took off with catastrophic conditions in Stanthorpe: scores were evacuated, thousands more were left without power and an almighty blaze destroyed homes and threatened to engulf the town. The ABC News coverage continued 24/7 for months, with more than 50 staff involved in the coverage of that states fires alone, providing hundreds of emergency broadcasts with valuable information for those affected and their families. ABC News Queensland provided rolling live coverage from ABC News Breakfast (the highest rating Breakfast TV program in Queensland), the ABC News Channel and the major News Bulletins. From the beginning of the fire storms, to the aftermath as towns and communities recovered, Queenslanders turned to the ABC as their Emergency Broadcaster served them in the way only the ABC News knows how: comprehensive, reliable, and accurate broadcasting.
