Reducing disparities in lung cancer screening eligibility with new smoking criteria

Показать описание
Matthew Smeltzer, PhD, The University of Memphis, Memphis, TN, discusses his work on the impact of a 20-year relaxed smoking history criteria on lung cancer screening eligibility. Compared to the 20 pack-year requirement, this new criterion reduced both sex-based and race-based disparities in screening eligibility. However, when compared to the American Cancer Society (ACS) requirements, the new criteria excluded from screening some patients with a 20 pack-year history and with lung cancer. Dr Smeltzer therefore argues for the integration of this new criterion into already existing requirements for screening eligibility. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
