REACTION | Olivia Newton-John & ABBA on Olivia! ABC-TV Special 1978

My reaction to listening and watching Olivia! with Olivia Newton-John and ABBA.

Actually, Olivia had already finished the filming of GREASE and this tv special was shown just a few days before the official Grease movie premier.Then the film blasted in the cinema theatres and Livy became a more stable worldwide household name and icon outside of the USA where she was a quite big with N1 POP/country hits there.And yes it's true that' Hoplessly devoted to you" was the very last song that was filmed after the movie was almost complete.Kinda last time shot.Olivia was an ubelievably good live performer.She seemed and sounded both effortless and flawless, just like her beloved friend Karen.That's a rare privilidge.

Hi David.That was so amusing, i've seen all the episode of this tv show and i also liked their "jamming" where Benny played the keyboard with Bjorn on guitar kidding, trying harmonies and singing.My fave part is all of them singing "Holiday" a Bee Gees song.All voices in unison sounded magnificent.What we saw here was an unedited non filtered kind of raw version part of what was finally shown on TV but still so spontaneous and beautiful.As you mentioned Abba girls wasn't that famous for their dance moves but even so their naive and "awkard-ish" way was still adorable and pure joy to watch.BTW what is your opinion on the VOYAGE album after 6 months of resease?.We usually tend to reconsider and apreciate an artists' work, even more as time goes by.Sometimes first time listen doesn't always do absolute justice.I personally needed some time to digest a couple of songs but now i feel humbled, even more emotional and very, very gratetful for that final gift they gave to us.

All of them plus Rod Stewart, bee gees, Earth Wind and Fire, Donna summer etc were at the unicef concert at UNO a year later in 1979

ONJ has always been my absolute favorite singer since 1973! Subscribed just because you love her so much! I like ABBA too. As to some of your questions, yes, Bruce Welch said he wrote the lyrics to "Please Mr. Please" as a way to process his split with ONJ. I love this version of "Fernando" with ONJ's high vocals. Unfortunately, on her 1982 Physical concert taped for HBO, the video production company cut "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "If Not For You" in order to shorten the time. For the movie "Grease", ONJ's contract stipulated that ONJ would have a solo song and she would have final approval over it. Her long-time Aussie mate, songwriter and record producer, John Farrar, was tagged to write both this song and "You're the One that I Want". I hope you get a chance to react to more ONJ. I can send links to some songs you may not have heard. Unless, of course, you have already done a thorough search on her stuff on youtube. Great job!👏😀
