This viola is the only instrument by Stradivari that has all of its original parts, including its neck, tailpiece, bridge, fingerboard, and pegs. It is in virtually unplayed condition; its incredible size made it difficult for violists to play it, so it wasn’t used extensively. The varnish is virtually pristine, the blackening of the scroll’s chamfers is unmarred. It is an extremely unusual example of Stradivari’s work as it appeared when it was new, and thus is priceless.
