"Bridgerton" has a new leading lady! It was announced recently that the new female lead for “Bridgerton” season two will be “Sex Education” star Simone Ashley. The 25-year-old is set to play Kate, who is the love interest of Jonathan Bailey’s character Anthony Bridgerton. Similar to season one of the hit Netflix series, which followed Simon and Daphne’s love story, it will largely mirror the plot of book two in Julia Quinn’s book series that follows that stories of each Bridgerton family member’s journey to finding love.

I am glad they used a dark skin indian to break the discrimination against them within the indian community. And she delivered her role!

Shonda Rhimes is always thinking out of the box. She is amazing.

I really thought that Kate would be Asian after the first season, because there weren’t Asian characters in the first season 🥰🥰🥰

It is nice to see her as a leading lady but what I would really want is for someone to make a movie/show for the international audience that depicts love story of an Indian prince and princess, or one that takes form in the Kenyan wilderness, or a real life depiction of a story from Arabian Nights. I want our own history to be shown on screen, not see ethnic characters to be inserted in historical depictions that are purely based on western history and culture. That is not real diversity.

Finally some Asian representation and also some dark skin representation, that was lacking from season 1. Almost all leading black or Asian or Latinax females on tv are mixed-race or fair-skinned. i welcome this representation, maybe some dark-skinned girl in south Asia will see her and notice she doesn't have to bleach cause her skin beautiful the way it is. Tv needs to stop promoting colorism... season 1 was a bit of a disappointment for me but season 2 is looking up.

I'm so excited, I don't think changing Kate's last name was necessary but I absolutely LOVE the diversity in this series. And please remember, it is a FICTIONAL love story, regardless if it's based in the 1800's everyone doesn't have to be Caucasian for realism purposes. Their casting choices are amazing and I can't wait for season 2!

Not sure how I feel about this casting choice. Guess I'll just have to wait for season 2. Super excited though. Loved "the viscount who loved me". From enemies, to friends, to

I see a lot of people attacking others because they don’t share the same opinion. So if someone doesn’t like Simone as Kate you are automatically a “racist”. If you read the book you would maybe understand where they are coming from. I also have read the book and Simone doesn’t even come close to how they described Kate in the book. And no I’m not talking about her skin colour or the fact that she is Indian but her facial features and body type. Kate was described as a more voloptuous woman compared to the others, she was taller and she had full lips. I know that for some people this doesn’t really seem too matter but if you have read the book and loved it like many of us do, you have a kind off image in your mind and it’s just very disappointed to see one of your favourite books come to live and have them change the lead character so drastically. And no i did not like the casting of season one either. Rege Jean is a good actor and so is phoebe but together they lacked the chemistry that Simon and daphne had in the book. I just didn’t see it or feel it and maybe I’m the only one who has this opinion but for me it was disappointing and I guess season two isn’t going to be any different

I will not surprise later if Ben's Sophie will be British-Chinese or British-Pinoy or any other asian descent british actress... and so does Francesca's John/Michael, Gregory's Lucy and Haycinth's Gareth🤭🤭🤭🤭 it makes the whole bridgerton family's descendants will be quite multicultural🤣
