Israel / US Connections Are Deeper And More Disturbing Than You Think

Peter Beinart of Jewish Currents joins Sam and Emma to discuss the recent events in Israel and Palestinian territories. Officials in Benjamin Netanyahu’s government often express a desire to weaken Israel’s Supreme Court, citing limitations on their ability to punish Palestinians. Palestinian perspectives, however, interpret these policies as part of a larger strategy involving mass expulsion. In March, anti-occupation activist Fadi Quran expressed concerns about another Nakba, referring to the expulsion of Palestinians at Israel’s birth. A poll showed that 65% of Palestinians viewed Israel’s “long run aspiration” as extending its borders and expelling Arab citizens. While such a prospect may seem unthinkable in mainstream American discourse, Palestinian fears of expulsion are rooted in history and are not unfounded. The current government's radicalism, combined with escalating violence, raises concerns about a potential surge in Palestinian expulsion, prompting the question of what actions American officials would take to prevent it.

There is hardly anything more stupid and dangerous than putting important decisions in the hands of people who don't have to pay a price for being wrong

I’ve had the “Americans did it to the Indians, we get to do it also” argument made straight to my face.

I'm Scottish. There are about 5 million of us. We represent 0001% of the world's population. Why does another 0001% percent have the right to make so muc fuckin' noise?

For whom interested in diving deeper into Israeli/US bonds : a documentary movie got released by February 2023, it is called "Israelism". Main "actors" are actual American jews who got endoctrined and are now fighting against Israeli's colonialism, lies and endoctrinement. The movie really deserves way more attention.

Americans should go after AIPAC. Like something should be done they are one of the reasons why America supports Israel so much

I totally disagree with America's support of the state of Israel. As an American I feel so ashamed of the leadership’s decision to be complicit in the genocide. I think that this genocide is making the whole world less safe.

As a Jewish decendant even though i have read many books and lived in jordan, spoken to countles amounts of people who experienced the Nakba, i visited Palestine, but rwgardles off that, i go on instinct and what my soul tells me when i vlose my eyes, my heart and doul tells me that what isreal is doing is wrong. The same way as a whyte Afrikaans woman i felt that the way the black south africans were treated by my kind was wrong.

Can we talk about the trillion cubic feet of natural gas off the coast of Gaza?

Certainly Israel is not the safest place if you are a young Israeli anti war objector.
One 18 year old boy has just been imprisoned this week for 30 days for refusing to fight in the IDF.

Well, I'm a 57 year old white Australian and I'm 100% pro-Palestine and anti Israeli zionism; and I have these views in full knowledge of the violent colonialist history of Australia. I've also accepted the inconvenient truth of climate change for over 37 years. Most of the people I went to university with have the same views - so we have been here all along, in a minority.

As an Hispanic, who grew up during a civil war during the 80s, I tend to identify with other oppressed peoples, hence my (and others') support for the Palestinian plight to be treated, at minimum, like human beings.. governments like the US, who foster wars and profit from them, will always take a pro war stand.. it's their most profitable business

As someone with Irish roots and a father to Irish/Nigerian kids i try to be clear about history. When i told my daughter that the Irish were the only country initially to stand with Palestine my daughter said "duh, they know what it's like to live under the rule of an oppressive occupying force".
Times like that i think ive done ok

The reason why non whites and young people in the US support Palestinians rights is because they are against oppression and whites and older generations have no problem with oppression as long as it benefits them

If Muslim Americans were compelled to explain to people that they do not share Islamic
extremism ideology, then Jewish Americans should also be equally compelled to prove that they too do not Jewish extremism or Zionist ideology. You can’t have it both ways.
