We were in Rio August of 2018 for a week. We stayed on Copacabana Beach near Posto no. 5. We had an amazing time as it had been on my bucket list for years!

I was meant to be going to Brazil (Rio and Salvador) in March but the U.K. is now banned from flying to Brazil (and now all flights banned from South America flying from the U.K.) due to new strands of Covid found...I'm gutted but these videos will keep me going until I can go! I have been there several times and this great video makes me want to return. II starts off at Leblon beach Posto 12 then goes on to Ipanema beach Posto 10. Both are middle class areas and the beach crowds reflect that. In between Ipanema and Copacabana is Arpoador Beach which is located between the statue of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Posto 7. The end of that beach is where the interesting rock formations are that many people were strolling on. The view back to Ipanema shows the impressive Gavea Rock and is one of the most beautiful backdrops of any beach in the world especially at sunset. The lights there at night are especially memorable and come from the favela made famous in the movie Cidade de Deus, a Brazilian crime drama which was nominated for four Oscar awards. Finally arguably the most famous beach in the world, Copacabana, which attracts the most tourists and beach bandits, scam artists, prostitutes, drug dealers etc. Ok not exactly a family beach but if you go early in the day and do not get too distracted it will still be a memorable and enjoyable experience. The mountain at the end of Copacabana is called Sugerloaf (Pão de Acucar) and can be visited by a gondola ride. The only thing lacking Iin my opinion was a shot of some of the beach vendors who stroll up and down the beach selling refreshments and food like shrimp which they will cook for you on the spot. They are characters in their own right!

I went to Rio/Brazil in the worst time possible. Middle of their winter season, things were quiet, Brazilian team just lost in the quarter finals of world cup, mood was sombre. But for me it was still awesome. Point is, you can't lose going to Brazil...
