Republicans Worry About Party's Future As Gaetz And Greene Turn GOP Into a Freakshow
Показать описание
Republican strategists agree that Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene have very limited power to actually do anything in Congress, but they are becoming increasingly worried about the power that the pair have over the fringe group's of the GOP's base. They believe that as long as these two continue to dominate headlines, they are going to push away normal, moderate Republicans who don't want to be a part of the GOP freakshow. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Last week, Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene took their freakshow on the road once again, this time going to Des Moines, Iowa for another one of their America First rallies. And the more these two nitwits travel around the country, the more they get crowds all riled up with their idiotic and false talking points, the more that Republican strategists across the country are starting to get a little bit more concerned. There's a wonderful piece that came out in the New York Times over this past weekend, where Republican strategists sounded off about how worried they are about these two becoming the focal point for the Republican party. Several good points from this piece that I want to bring up. First and foremost, you had one of the strategists point out that these two are basically picking up where Donald Trump left off and they're capitalizing on white grievance here in the United States, which is exactly what Donald Trump did by coming out and attacking immigrants, attacking people from what he called countries in Africa.
Like you, you really don't even have to read between the lines on these things. We know exactly what he's talking about. Non-white people. Even saying we should have more people from Europe coming over here. Like it was blatantly obvious what the dude meant and he's playing off white grievance. And that's what Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz are doing. Albeit not to the extent that Donald Trump is, but they're still going out there telling these angry white people that yes, your life sucks and your life sucks because of these other people that are making your life so crappy. But there was a different statement. There was a different strategist that had this to say, and this really spoke to me. A person like Marjorie Taylor Greene attracts crowds and attention because they're speaking to an audience that feels marginalized, but also mobilized because they're angry. But revving up certain segments of the party can also alienate other parts of the party. And another strategist added, they fascinate the media as far as real muscle, even in the Republican primary.
They're just one of many factions. Trying to point out that, yeah, I mean, they're there, but they're not, you know, the, the big powerful people. They really have no legislative muscle in Congress to speak of, especially Marjorie Taylor Greene. But what these strategists are trying to do, one of them clearly is warning, like, listen, if the Republican party continues to follow these two nitwits letting the Republican party become this freakshow, you're going to turn away the normies. You know, the moderate Republicans, the ones who say, I sure do like tax cuts, but I'm definitely not racist and terrible. Yeah. Those normal Republicans who just have bad politics, not bad personalities, which yes, they do exist folks. Those are the people that are going to leave. Those are the people that are being pushed out and marginalized by people like Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene. They don't want to follow these people into the big tent of the Republican freakshow because let's face it, Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene are carnival barkers for the new Republican freakshow.
