Federal Judge FURIOUS Lawyer Used AI to Write Filing

A Federal Judge is FURIOUS a lawyer in his court used artificial intelligence, in this case it was ChatGPT, to draft and actually file a motion filed with fake, made up cases, while arguing his client’s case which was already in litigation. Very, Very BAD. The Judge looked up the cases, discovered they were fake, and issued an Order to Show Cause, which are the four words every lawyer LOATHES to hear. It’s like being called into the principal’s office except the principal in this case is a federal judge who can destroy your law license and maybe even put you in jail.

A good shouting at for the entire legal community to hear, and then some very embarrassing sanctions, such as some courses to brush up upon seems like the best way forward here.

The biggest deal here is the elephant in the room: This was probably not the first Chat GBT drafted filling, so I bet judges around the world are scrambling to take a second look at documents filed in all of their cases.

I'm loving this Judge, for all I know he may be a total jerk, but I 100% agree with his stances ChatGBT is unproven technology and it will more than likely not pass the standards once those standards are legislated.

How can you not know that these AI's will make things up with just as much confidence as factual information? Just play around with them for a day and you'll realize that when it doesn't know something it will fabricate an answer! How dumb and lazy can you be to not only have an AI write it, but to not even bother to proof it before submitting it? I think an example needs to be set here, and he needs to be disbarred. Lawyers are too expensive to permit an AI to do their work, it's fraud.
