Bach Cello Suite 1: Prelude (Solo Bass Guitar)

Here's my rendition of one of the first Bach pieces I ever adapted for solo bass guitar. the Prelude from Cello Suite 1. I've been playing this tune on and off for years, so I'm happy to finally take time to record it for you guys. I hope you enjoy it!

Learning Bach on electric bass is a great exercise for stretching your technique, since his music wasn't written for our tuning. Cellists have access to a lot more range within a position, so playing the cello music requires a lot of shifting on a bass guitar tuned in fourths (standard tuning). And even more so with the Bach violin music!

no wonder Cliff Burton was so good. he transcribed classical music, including bach, in his bass.

I found myself floating from my chair and levitating in mid air from the sweet warm tones of his Peavey Cirrus 4-string, intricately playing all of the arpeggios, scales, and beautiful notes from one of my favorite cello pieces from J. S. BLESS YOU,

A couple of years back a British mathematician did a study of J S Bach's output - his conclusion was that if you compose a new piece of western music of any genre, the chances are 99.999% likely that Bach beat you to it and has already composed it. Yes, it might be in a more formal structure but his output was so prolific he pretty much composed every possible note combination out of the millions there are. The man truly was a genius - the amazing thing about these old masters is they didn't have the ability to record their work and review it. If they were writing for an orchestra, they did it on a piano and in their heads until actually rehearsing. These days you whistle a tune into the PC and it sets it to a symphony orchestra

Reading the biography of Cliff Burton I discovered that he studied his bass with Bach, by the time I read this I could not imagine it in practice.

Now I see how it's possible, and it's amazing!
Excellent work!

I really like how you strike the string with your picking fingers without your first knuckles collapsing.

Jaw dropping performance. Made justice to both, Bach and electric bass.

Thank you for having your channel. Normally I get on my Bass right away but I relate to the way you teach so well that I want to listen first.

That's a cool bass sound for this melody.

This was the first classic I tried on bass (having learnt it on 'cello as a kid). Nicely done!
