for those who say that Robert Pattinson wasn't good in this movie, he was 23 playing a lover of all these 3 women of different ages and he was so good at his age. Many moments were indeed seductive but there were others where his character really scared me and made me feel disgusted. A bad actor wouldn't make you feel that. Sure, maybe he could have pushed a little bit for his performance, but at his age he was already really talented.

Историческая психологическая драма. Как по мне сюжет на любителя... Но актерская игра Ума Турман и Роберта Паттинсона увлекла досмотреть до конца.

Robert Pattinson lacks one of Bel-Amis most marked physical characteristics, his moustache. Maupassant reiterates it all the time.

This was one of the biggest let-DOWNS I ever saw. Guy de Maupassant's "Bel Ami" is not some "romance/sex-story", with multiple "players", but a SATIRE - a relentless, and extremely sarcastic book that's also very... French for lack of a better term (and "down to earth", too). This movie's quite "American" instead...and where the hell is "Papa Walther" and his family ??

Forgive me for what I am about to say! ...BUT!...
- what made me dislike the movie is the fact that this "American version" of the story tries to "mold" George Duroy into some sort of "victim" just 'cause he starts at the very "bottom" (true! - at the first few pages he's POOR AS HELL!). However! - fun-fact??...HE'S NO "VICTIM" AT ALL!! 😂 Truth be told he's the VILLAIN - and not just "any" villain, but one of the most DESPICABLE human beings to have ever walked the earth! :D If You fellas read the book, then you also know what was he doing with his "best friend" (Forestier) when they were stationed in Africa (remember those few lines about preying on the local population?)! He was no "victim" even when he was poor! "BEL-AMI" is not some "social justice" romance/story UNLIKE the movie "hinting" at Duroy being a "victim of oppression". George Duroy is not P*SSED at Parisian "high society" (or society in general!) - just because late XIXth century French society is highly polarized & divided among "rich&poor" (i.e: EXTREMELY rich and EXTREMELY poor!). He's not some "social-justice warrior" - far less "avenger of the downtrodden"! :D George Duroy is an angry, cunning and absolutely RUTHLESS character not because he wants to "avenge the poor" - this is not some "REVENGE OF THE DOWNTRODDEN" and sure as hell this is NOT "LES MISERABLES"! George Duroy (who is also a Norman peasant - already a "tell-tale" in the story! lol!:D) - is climbing the ladder of society by any means necessary, but he doesn't "JUST" climb it up! - he does it with a nasty attitude - with ZERO "shame" at all, and often does things most men wouldn't even think about doing! He is angry (...AS HELL!) at them ALL, but NOT because "THERE ARE POOR PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD". He does it all only because HE IS POOR (it's ALL ABOUT HIMSELF!). Duroy - who btw later on becomes "Baron Du Roy de Cantel! ( 😂 ) feels - or rather! - is CERTAIN THE WORLD OWES HIM ! - meaning: doesn't "OWE THE POOR"! NO! - owes HIM ! - it's HIM and ONLY HIM! It's all about himself! :D That's the "main plotline" of tht whole story and this movie just ...?...what? ..."forgets" ??? ...c'mon! ... :)
PS. At the same time I don't have a problem with Robert Pattinson playing that part - he's a young actor in this movie (quite talented - granted!) but he's also just ...?...how to say?? ...too much of a "romantic character" ("PURE & SIMPLE"). Pattinson simply doesn't have the makings of that nasty, cunning and SPITEFUL "PERSONA" that Duroy (the George Duroy from Maupassant's book) ...IN FACT ... IS! 😂 ...like it or not!... 🤣

Best Regards, Folks!
