That's because "mademoiselle" shows we presume from a women she is single, and so nowadays it gets a flirty value

Fun fact: in france, we used to tell the difference between madame and mademoiselle on administration/official papers (we write mademoiselle if you're not married, madame is for when you're married). Nowadays, we always write madame no matter if you're married or not, because some people thought that it was unfair how we needed to either say mademoiselle or madame for girls, while for boys we always write monsieur no matter what

Everyone: when watching this VOD on Nina Kosaka's channel (still available as of 13 July 2023), ensure your captions setting is set to auto translate. Then you can understand what everyone is saying when French is spoken.

I totally relate to Nina about this. I perfectly remember the first time someone (a female McDonald's cashier) called me "señor" ("sir or mister"). It took me a few seconds to react. And to add salt to the wound I had just turned 30 a few days ago.

To even the scales, shortly after, an 18yo girl believed I couldn't be a day over 21yo... so my ego recovered quickly.

I'd say it is likely those people don't know the meaning of madam. Unless Rosemi looked older than normal as a young person

I wish I could be called young man or mademoiselle too. The word "mademoiselle" is so classy and cool xD

Mademoiselle n'est plus vraiment utilisée du fait que c'est maintenant plus de l'ordre de l'ancien français. Je trouve ça dommage mais bon

English :
Mademoiselle isn't really used anymore as it is part of the "old french". Nowadays, we use Mademoiselle just for flirting etc.... i find it kinda sad that this word isn't used anymore as it was a remain of the old classic french 🤔

Its so funny to me cause in germany Madmoiselle equals "Fräulein" which was used for young unmarried girls but in todays time (at least it was in my household) it more like and insult or when you are in trouble. Also only older people use it nowadays. I mean I'm a woman in my thirties I really don't want to be called "Fräulein" 😂
