Now I'm totally critical of the F-35 as well as of the military's co-opting of the U.S. government budget in general, but from a coldly analytical point of view (though not one with much intimate knowledge of the subject) it seems to me that a mock battle between a beloved old plane and a prototype with legendary complexity would reveal only one thing: the intense difference in the pilots' respective familiarity with their instruments. If the F-35 is so amazingly complex, and the F-15 such a long-used workhorse, how could they be evenly matched? It's like putting a student driver against a stunt motorist.
